hi everyone.
very little info here, however could anyone help??
looking for the name of a possible lunatic asylum that was I assume in Glasgow (maybe not to far out) around 1850 situated on a belfield rd..
I've had a look and nothing coming up, for sure it is very limited info so if any of you lovely people have ideas where I may find this (if it exists :) ).. would appreciate it..

Could it have been Barony Parochial Asylum, Woodilee, Lenzie?
There is a Bellfield Road in Kirkintilloch.
-
thank you my lovely...
I have posted a rather vague bit of info on kirkintilloch board re. belfield rd...as I have very very little to go on...that said this bit of info about woodilee is much appreciated. :)
again thank you.

again thank you Josey...
as I am looking at around 1854
the woodilee opened in 1875 ish so
I will have to wait and see what the other post in (kirkintilloch board ) brings up for belfield rd , was wondering if a smaller house for children defined as lunatic would have been house there (if it exists that is)

Should have noticed that on the wiki entry - sorry :-[
What about the 1851 census? I am not sure if it is possible to search by address on SP but if you have at least one name, you can search by road & town on ancestry.

thank you josey... have looked at the census and could really do with finding the name of the asylum.... to clarify my child... Mary J Ewing b. abt 1847 Glasgow was a young child in this asylum... (apparently ??)
-
Just to take a step back, for a moment, where did the information about this child being in an asylum originate ?
-
Lynne there is only one Ewing family staying in Kirkintilloch on the 1851 census on SP. No Mary and this family are staying in Kerr Street. Agnes 57, housekeeper born Campsie, her 2 sons Joseph and David and a niece Agnes age 6 born in Shotts.(Freecen) ps. Bellfield in conjunction with Westermains was a district within Kirkintilloch so your asylum may have come under the area rather than the road :)

Could the child have been in the workhouse rather than an asylum?
This site might help if that's the case- http://www.workhouses.org.uk/

well guys thank you for the posts... I am going to have a good dig around and will keep you all posted :)
