I am trying to identify the birth certificate of my gt grandfather, Joseph Thomas Mellor, (known as Thomas) born about 1866 in Liverpool (stated in the 1871, 1881 census records). His parents were John and Martha and I believe Joseph was their eldest and first child but the only one to be born in Liverpool. The family came from Cheshire (Wybunbury) and are found back in Cheshire by the 1871 census and the years after. I am also curious as to why Thomas was born in Liverpool and/or how John and Martha were there? Family? Work?
I'd be grateful for any help and guidance. :D

Joseph Thomas MELLOR son of John and Martha was baptised in Malpas on 19th Aug 1866.
The family were living in Bickley and dad was a labourer.

Thanks for your replies Annette and Carol, much appreciated. I'll order the birth certificate with the reference you found Annette and see if I've got the right Joseph.
All the best! :)
