Hi can anyone help with this? I am trying to find out what happened to a man called George Moore, his marriage and burial.
All I know about him is that he married to a Susannah Chapman in 1861 in Leicester, can anyone locate the marriage? Susannah would have been aged about 16 or 17 when she married so George is likely to be a similar age or in his 20's in 1861. Susannah was a half sister to my 2xgreat grandfather, her natural father was a John Atkins and her step-father was Thomas Smith.
George Moore may have died in the 1860's so I'd like to locate his burial. I can only locate two death index entries for a George Moore in Leicester in the 1860's, one in 1864 the other in 1865 - can anyone locate the burials of these two in Leicester to see if one fits this man? It's possible the other entry is of a son who died young.
I have Susannah on the 1851 & 1861 censuses but I can't locate her in 1871 when presumably she was widowed or married to George Moore. She was born in 1845 in Cosby.
George's wife Susannah Moore emigrated to Utah in September 1872 so I would imagine he had died by that year. She remarried in 1877 in Salt Lake City but she was brutally murdered by her second husband in 1905. I would love to find out more about her first husband George in Leicester to help fill in the blanks of her life.
Thanks for any help.

Susannah Chapman and George Moore on same page
Marriage cert will hopefully give you some more info on him - age, , occupation, address at the time, fathers name etc. Then maybe these will be clues to find him on earlier censuses.

There are two George Moore's buried at Welford Road Cemetery which fit the ones you have found on FreeBMD
April 1864 George Moore aged 67
April 1865 George Moore aged 7

Thanks everyone for your help with this, the mystery deepens :)
It seems unlikely from the ages of the George Moore burials that they are related unless she married a man much older than herself so I will have to think again about him, either he died elsewhere in the country or possibly he went to Utah as well, but separately from Susannah, and then died out there before 1877.
I think the George Moore born in Ratby married to someone else but there are a couple of other George Moore's on the 1861 census in Leicester who seem to disappear on later censuses so possibly he is one of them. I may well have to get their marriage certificate to get some sort of idea of George Moore's age and father's name to see if I can pin point him in either Leicester or Utah.
Thanks again.

Have found the grave and that led me to the deaths, very sad. Can't find a death to match either and the passenger list says spinster!

Mike you are a star for finding the marriage details, thank you so much :)
That does look like it is the right Moore family on the censuses willsy, thanks.

I'm not having much luck finding out what happened to George Moore after he married, however, I have found a death index entry for a Mary Chapman Moore in Leicester in the march quarter 1862, is some kind soul able to locate a burial in Leicester to see if she is a baby daughter of George & Susannah Moore?
Thanks.

Thanks willsy, definitely something to keep in mind. I would not be surprised if George Moore didn't die young and Susannah remarried bigamously.
