Title: Marriage - John Hull and Mary Yates @ Dover Street Chapel 23 Feb 1847
Post by: Purple Badger on Sunday 01 September 13 16:12 BST (UK)
Hi All,

I wonder if anybody can help me with this. I have found a newspaper entry for the wedding of John Hull of Dover Street marrying Miss Mary Yates, Dress Maker, London Road both Leicester. They married at Dover Street Chapel on the 23 Feb 1847.

I think this may well be my ancestor as I know I have a John Hull living on Dover Street in this period. What I need to establish is either the age of John at this marriage or whether he was a Widow going into this marriage.

I wondered if somebody might be able to access a transcript or register that might state this???

Many Thanks,

Sarah

Greeting’s ..Sarah & Welcome to the Leicestershire Boards….

This looks very much like a Nonconformist event as it’s not giving me a Church name…….
Therefore I’m not sure if the Records Office will have a copy of this marriage within their strong room but I can at lest try next time I’m at the Records Office & report back my findings on this thread.....

Dover Street Chapel   became what is now " The  Little Theatre “
and the inmates within the grave yard still haunt the Theatre to this day…..

Sorry unfortunately the Marriage Registers for
The Baptist Chapel Dover Street have a gap between 1837 ~ 1911.
Therefore You will have to order the certificate from the G R O web Site
Using the following :~

1st Quarter 1847.
John Hunt ~ Mary Yates
Leicester District.
Ref No’. XV 141.

Both Names checked out with the same Ref No’.

Sorry I could not save you the price of the certificate this time..

Hi Sarah

When you get your certificate, could I ask a favour? Would it be possible to PM me with Mary's details - father, etc - as she's a new one on me, and all my Yates' were non conformists.

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

I am unlikely to get the certificate at this stage. I need to go through the certificates I have and see if I can make sense of this scenario first. I stumbled across the marriage entry in the Leicester Mercury dated 27th Feb 1847. I have attached a copy of the relevant part. This entry threw me as my ancestor John Hull lived on Dover Street but I already had him married to Mary Carr which was backed up by a birth certificate. I am trying to establish whether John's wife could have died being replaced by Mary number two or a different John Hull on Dover Street???

If I do get it at some point I will let you know. Equally if you get it could you let me know?

Many Thanks,

Sarah
