Title: Check entry - GIRLING, Ipswich St Clement, 1806
Post by: suelaw1954 on Saturday 31 August 13 12:48 BST (UK)
Hi,
I was wondering if someone would be able to double check an entry in the registers of St Clement, Ipswich.
The Suffolk Baptism Index has a baptism for "Tammy" Girling on 20 Nov 1806 with no indication of whether the child is a son or a daughter. I can find no further reference to a Tammy Girling (or any other related name) but a Samuel Girling is married in 1831 in St Clements, shortly after Tammy's brother Charles Girling. I wondered if someone could check whether "Tammy" was a transcription error for "Sammy".

Thanks in advance

Sue down under. 8-)

Unsure of coverage, but have you checked the original images on Familysearch?

I'm not aware of any Suffolk parish register images on Familysearch apart from Lothingland Deanery (part of the Norfolk collection).
Just double-checked and I can't see any.

Oops. Sorry Sue. I misread and thought you were looking for Norfolk PRs. ( am on ipad and watching TV while browsing rootschat, so not concentrating). Apologies again.

he had been in the army twice first time with girlow the after comming out of prision he joined up again and sued hi name girlow because he did not want the army to know about his prision service.

Hi Chris,
I don't have any Girling ancestors, but I do have Girling relatives. My ggggg-aunt, Sara Gifford married a William Girling in Debenham, Suffolk in 1800. There's a big gap between Suffolk 1800 and Norfolk 1878 and Girling is "locally common" in East Anglia, so no, we probably aren't related.

Norfolk has become a good place for family history - most of the parish registers have digital facsimiles on the FamilySearch site and there's a fair bit of indexing been done on FreeREG - so work your way back and see if you slide south into Suffolk. (The Norfolk family history society has also databased their transcriptions and made them available online to members.)

Good luck,

Sue
