Title: Rather simple BMD index question re:marriage

Hello all,

With the BMD Index for England and Wales (marriage), if I have a reference to volume and page number eg Volume 5 Page 429 for the husband, does it follow that the wife MUST have the same reference?

Yes it does, but there can be transcription errors.

The GRO indexes should have 4 marriages (eight names) a page, prior to 1851, and only 2 marriages (four names) after 1851.

So that means if I look at the original index and the husband has 'Vol 5 Page 429' and the (not very likely looking now...) Wife has 'Vol 5 Page 435', I can stop trying to shoehorn the two of them together?

If page 429 and page 435 have the correct number of names then they are not connected. If you click on the page numbers then you will see the other people on that page.
