Can any one tell me if the address was for some kind of institution in 1961. I have googled it and find it listed as an adult training centre at present. I have a death cert. for someone who could possibly be a relation. The place of death is given as 137 Dysart Rd Grantham the informer is shown as occupier of the same address.

There was a workhouse on Dysart Road http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Grantham/

If the death was in 1961, the workhouse was known as Hill View Hospital I believe. Most of the buildings were demolished in the late 1960s.

Thank you both for your help. This looks like my Uncle who was born 1903 in Bourne Workhouse. My last info on him was on the 1911 census aged 8yrs he had been left in the Workhouse, the surname spelling had been changed slightly but I am certain its him.
Jonmar.

Try http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html
Search on 135 Dysart Road, Grantham
The 1931 1:2500 map is probably best to see the building names, although it is shown on the 1965 map.
Later maps show the school.

Hi,
I have checked with local historian today in regards to 137 Dysart Rd and in the late 1950s the workhouse had been changed into an auxiliary hospital and at the back section was turned into a maternity unit.Incidentally my husbands Grandmother died in the hospital section in 1960 and the historians daughter was born there in 1958 and my son was born there 1966 so it looks as if Jonmars uncle died in hospital and not the workhouse.
Hope this info is useful.
