Can anyone identify the place where John Mackenzie was living at the time of his marriage to Catherine Macdonald in 1837?
-
Might not be much help, but this could relate to a farm, rather than a hamlet/village etc, which might be why it's proving difficult to trace...

Locations could be Strongarve and Woodlands to the SW of Evanton. Go to http://footpathmaps.com/
and enter Evanton as the location to see map of the area.

I suspect that Catherine MacDonald is the sister of my ancestor William MacDonald. He lived at Strongarve/ Stronguie with his father John in 1832. William was convicted of cattle stealing but while on bail one of his cautioned was John MacKenzie. Another was a John Cameron who was married to "his sister". I believe she was named Margaret with a marriage also recorded on Strongarve. Margaret's parents are listed as John MacDonald and Catherine Ross
Does any of this match anything you have found.

On the basis of identification by others.

The two associated names giving a reason for the flexiblity in spelling.
