Title: Medical Category AWI (OS)
Post by: Hemingbrough Historian on Wednesday 21 August 13 21:33 BST (UK)
My mother served in the A.T.S. and was "examined at Leeds on 28th June 1945 and placed in medical category AWI (OS)" prior to discharge.   Was does that mean, please?
P.S. I don't know if the 'I' is a '1' or an 'I'.

I think it could be Anterior Wall Infarction, a heart condition, can't find anything on (OS)

Thank you, James.  That fits in very well.  I never realised my mother had heart problems but I learned through family history that all the males on her side of the family had heart attacks or blocked arteries in their fifties.
