Does anyone know please where 99 Kingsdown Road Upper Stratton Swindon Wilts would have been located in 1919 or where the location is today?
Thank you :)

Hi Millie :D
A google search brings up a Flickr photo (dated 1910) of Kingsdown Road which states that it is now known as Beechcroft Road.

Hi Vaz :D
Yes indeed but I have found copy of a letter posted in 1919 addressed to 99 Kingsdown Road so where would I find it do you think - at the location of 99 Beechcroft Road or is that too easy?
I'd like to track it down and go see it if possible.

If you look on Google Streetview, you'll see that Beechcroft Road becomes Kingsdown Road just as it crosses over the A419. I don't think 99 is there now. There's a small industrial estate on Kingsdown Road that is somewhere where the house might have been, or more likely the plot is now underneath the A419 dual carriageway.

I see it thanks Lizzie. Sure you're right and there is nothing to see now.

We think it may still be standing. Once the entire length from Cricklade Road junction towards Highworth was called "Kingsdown Road", but as above poster says, the first part is now Beechcroft Road.
Some houses were lost that would now be floating over the dual carriageway.
The (re-)numbering may be complex - if you email us at localstudies@swindon.gov.uk and we would be happy to try and deduce where it was by matching certain landmark buildings (like the Boundary House, shops and pubs). Without checking I guess it would lie on the stretch between the current Bakers Arms and the Kingsdown Pub.
