Title: Marriage of Charles Jolly (b abt 1833) to Maria Bean in Burgate 1857
Post by: Dorking123 on Tuesday 20 August 13 19:43 BST (UK)
Can anyone help me with the name of Charles Jolly's father please - there are two Charles Jolly born to different parents in Redgrave around this time

The marriage took place on March 27 1857 according to one source

Marriage Reference is Hartismere 1857 Q1 Volume 4a Page 641

Thanks

Gerry

Hi

Your best bet is to get the marriage cert for Charles, this will give you his Father's name.

Freebmd/1861 census shows spouse as Maria Bean

To lookup a marriage in the parish registers - you have to know which church it took place in.

Unless any local transcriptions are available - buying the cert as recommended above is the only solution

Hi Gerry

As already suggested a copy of the marriage cert is the safest way forward - cheapest source is direct from the GRO - www.gro.gov.uk

You say you have 2 Charles Jolly's born c1833 in Redgrave?  I have found these 2 on familysearch
Charles Jolly Bpt 25 May 1832 Wortham.  Parents James & Harriet
Charles Jolly Bpt 28 Sep 1831 Redgrave or Redgrave cum Botesdale depending on which entry you look at. Parents Edward Jolly (or Jolley) & Mary.  The parish church would have been St Mary's in Redgrave - it was used by residents of both Redgrave and neighbouring Botesdale.

The parishes of Redgrave, Botesdale, Wortham & Burgate are very close to each other.  There are Bean & Jolly burials in all of them & in several other neighbouring parishes (Suffolk Burial Index). Based on the two bpts above I have found the following marriages that do not help at all at this stage but once you know his fathers name they might help with the next step back:

James JOLLY married Harriet HOWLETT 23 Nov 1829, Wortham
Edward JOLLY married Mary WEST 13 Jun 1831, Wortham
(source Suffolk marriage Index)

Did Charles & Maria use any of the above names for their children that is always a good clue.

K
