Title: Figuring Out Where Someone is Buried in Glasgow.
Post by: mkcoop on Friday 16 August 13 21:31 BST (UK)
Hello.

I was wondering if you guys had an advice or tips on how to figure out where my great grandmother is buried.  I have her death record and I know her address at the time and that she was Catholic.

Her name at the time of death was Mary Ann McLaren.  Her maiden name was McCulloch.  She died on 30 June 1925 at the Western Infirmary.  Her resident at the time was 15 Sandeman Street.

Thanks!
MK

Hi

to my knowledge there are only two Catholic cemeteries in the City. St Peter's, Dalbeth and St Kentigern's. Had a look on Memento Mori site but didn't see an entry for McLaren/McCulloch. Coming from that side of the City most likely St Kentigern's.

Given that Sandeman Street ran off of Dumbarton Road in the west end I agree that St. Kentigern is the most likely.

Unfortunately the lair records are held by Glasgow Council and are not yet available online although we have been promised digital access for some time. Prior to the records being sent off for digitisation Glasgow Council charged a pretty hefty hourly fee for any searching of the records.

The Mitchell Library holds microfilmed burial records for St. Kentigern's up to (I think) around 1950.

The Mitchell Library holds the records for St Kentigerns up to the year 1985  I was searching through them last week  I will be going to the Mitchell sometime over the next few weeks and will do a search for you
