Have a little trouble at locating information in regards to a Mary Pullin (Pullen)
Mary was believed to have come from London.
In 1806 - she was charged and tried at Middlesex, and in January 1807 - she was shipped to Australia. She had a son Hely (b. approx 1795) - who was on the convict ship 'Sydney Cove' with her. It was stated that the family had lived near Blackfriars area, however I couldn't find any information regarding this. The convict ship sailed from Falmouth.
Her death certificate gives no information - not even if she had other children in England.
Although it was stated that her husband was deceased prior to her conviction, and that his name was James, however no evidence can be found - not sure where that information came from.
Any help would be appreciated. Cheers - Jak

Presumably he was born 1795, not 1895?

Hi Jak
Can you clarify the dates please and amend your topic.
(1806/1807/1895)
Thanks

Hi
There is a couple, James and Mary Pullen baptising two children at St Ann Blackfriars 1796-1798
firstly: JAMES Pulllen bapt. 16 May 1796 son of James and Mary Pullen.
secondly which transcribed as ELEANOR Pullen bapt. 28 Oct 1798
when looking at the actual parish image it says "ELEAZOR, SON of James and Mary Pullen",
could this be Hely?
claire
Newspaper reports and trial records give her surname as PULLEN

Hi Claire.t
Sorry it had taken awhile . . . I have the death cert of Hely (also recorded as Eli ) - and that
he was born 1802 or there abouts.
Unfortunately his parents weren't listed in his death certificate. His mother 'Mary' taken young Hely with here when she was transported to Australia in 1807. The other children were left in England. Her husband was said to have been dead prior to her sentencing, although this has not yet been confirmed.
That baptisms you stated could well be the right family - as they are from the area Blackfriars.

It seems that a few people have been trying to research this particular Pullen line.
Someone had the following information. . . and couldn't go any further in regards to in info on marriage, etc.
Mary Pullen 1768 - (southern England) married a James Pullen. Between 1790 and 1903, they had the following children - (some were baptized in London and other in Blackfriars.
1. James - (died in infancy)
2. John
3. Maria
4. James
5. Eleanor
6. Maria
7. Hely (Eli)
It was also believed that Hely's brother John (1792?) was a School-Master with his own academy in Hove? around 1850's. Apparently as the story goes, John had written to Hely in Australia reconnecting the brothers.

Hi Claire
It could be - 'the John Pullen' - it was stated that was living in Brighton (Borough St), where this info came from is unknown. But he was a headmaster.
-
Claire;
I must say - its a little further more with the Pullen family history, with this information, which
I'm grateful for, as every little bit - puts the puzzle together.

Hi
Think this is John Pullen in 1841 census
Brighton, Brighthelmstone, Boro' Street
John Pullen 45 private tutor not bn in county
Elizabeth " 40 " " " "
Hannah Derman 35 " " " "
Class HO107 Piece 1122 Book 9.
Presuming Elizabeth Pullen is his wife there is a death 4th Qtr 1849 Brighton for her.
