Title: Ethel Corrin & George Edward Palethorpe (Liverpool)
Post by: Charm3d on Thursday 15 August 13 09:51 BST (UK)
Hi does anybody have any info on Ethel Corrin?  Born 1898 in Liverpool, Merseyside.  Married, George Edward Palethorpe (Born:1893 in Radford, Notts, Died:1976), .  I think that her Father could have been John Corrin, but not 100% sure.  Their first child, George Robert Palethorpe was born in Liverpool, (1925).

Thankyou

Thanks Steve for info.
Charm3d, the family with John as head of the household were all born in the Isle of Man except for Ethel 1898. Did she have a middle name?
The family Steve found, father was Robert. She named her first son George Robert so I'm wondering which is the right one.
The marriage cert will tell us all. Married Nottingham 3rd qtr 1921.
Tinam
added George Robt was born 24 July 1925 and died 2005 Basford Dby/Notts

Do you know for sure that she was born in Liverpool?

There are 2 Ethel Corrin's in Liverpool - both sets of parents are from the Isle of Man.
And, of course, Corrin is an extremely common surname from the Isle of Man - is there a chance she was born there?

Anyway, 1901 census:

Ethel Corrin who was the daughter of John had a middle name - there is no middle initial on marriage reg - sometimes middle names were not used at marriage -so it is only a guide

I wondered if this is "your" Ethel's death reg

Ethel Palethorpe
born 6 Nov 1895
death reg Mar 1983
age 87
Basford
8 0128

There is this birth reg FreeBMD
Ethel Corrin
Dec qtr 1895
Toxteth Park
8b 207

this Ethel is most probably the daughter of Robert

Marriage cert would give details of father & occupation

I would hazard a guess that Robert Corrin, as a Police Constable, was the more likely to have moved to Nottingham?

My thoughts too -but there is a death reg Robert Corrin Mar qtr 1917 W Derby which looks a possibility

It also looks like Ethel's sister Maud married in Liverpool c.1924

OK! I concede the point, Suz! ;D

I was just wondering why a young girl would be getting married in Nottingham, if her family were in Liverpool?

I had a quick look at Manx BMD's, but no obvious birth there? :-\

Looks like we all have the same thought though? The marriage certificate will provide the clues.

Thanks guys,

It would be the most obvious answer, to gain a marriage certificate.  I guess that I was just cheating, in case anybody was researching the same family.  George Robert is 100% correct, also Doreen and Kenneth, they were his siblings.

Hi Kevin

Welcome to the forum and hopefully you will make contact here, on the forum or by private message, with Charm3d.

It would be interesting to have an update here. Was it proven by marriage record that Ethel was Robert's daughter and what progress was made on the Manx roots? We may be able to help you with the Manx roots of this family.

The GRO birth index has Ethel's mother's surname as Cain so her parents must have been Robert Corrin and Elizabeth Ann Cain(e).
