Hi all just wondering did the british keep records of all the indian citizens in india during the british raj or was it just anglo indians and people who went from england to india

as a guess I can,t see how the brits could keep records for all Indians with such a vast number of people and area to cover , a good place to start is do a google search for british in india lots of sites come up from which I,m sure you can glean historical info .

There are many records on Family Search for India. The databases are online and are quite comprehensive. It might be worth a look.

Do you live in London?  The British Library in Euston run training sessions on tracing your ancestors in India.  They are really interesting and are also free.
