Title: DAVENPORT burials in Crewe (anyone related?)
Post by: plimmerian on Wednesday 07 August 13 15:28 BST (UK)
Ellis Davenport is at Westminster Street, Crewe in 1911 with his second wife Jane Louisa Davenport (nee Stubbs) who was baptised in Liverpool in 1856 - death records indicate he died in Jun quarter 1928 - I have not been able to locate his second wife in the death records

His first wife appears to be Emma Agnes Davenport (nee Williams) who died in Mar quarter 1887 aged 33

Anyone aware of a family burial plot (cemetery or churchyard?) would be helpful to a knock down a brick wall ;-)

thank you

plimmerian,

There is a probate record for a Jane Davenport of Westminster St, Crewe died 16 JUN 1943.
GRO index gives age at death 88 years.
If it's burial details you need then I would try for an obituary in the local Crewe newspaper.

Odessa.

Hi
They will probably be buried in Crewe cemetery. If you ring the cemetery with the dates of death they will tell you the plots that they are in. If you find the plots, I live in Crew and am willing to go to the cemetery and take photos for you

update  8)

"Jane & Ellis Davenport are buried in grave number 284 located in the ANEX section in Crewe Cemetery.  Unfortunately there is no record of Emma Agnes Davenport having been buried in any of the cemeteries managed by the Council"

don't know how easy it is to find or what state the cemetery is in - any advice - thanks

plimmerian,

There's a burial for Emma Agnes Davenport at Coppenhall 16 MAR 1887 a33y (familysearch).

I'm not exactly sure which church this will be as there appears to be 2 associated with Monks Coppenhall/Church Coppenhall - perhaps a lister with local knowledge can help.

M.I.'s for St Michael's, Coppenhall have been published by Family History Society of Cheshire, and would probably be available in Crewe Library as well as at Cheshire Archives.

Crewe Cemetery is well maintained so finding grave ANEX284 should be fairly easy - although there may or may not be a headstone. I visit there quite frequently so will have a look next time I am there.

Emma Agnes's grave at Coppenhall will be at St Michael's. This is just across the road from Crewe Cemetery and has two parts - the church graveyard and part of the town cemetery. Crewe Cemetery Office have the burial records for both of these.

You have obviously had more luck with Crewe Cemetery than I have had. I emailed them and they did not even have the common courtesy to reply.

Hi, I have the microfiches of the Monumental Inscriptions for St Michaels Coppenhall.  I have just looked at them and there is no Emma Davenport with a transcribed inscription.  That does not mean she is not buried there. She just might not have had a headstone.

thanks for posting your replies

Cemetery help seems to be a hit and miss affair -  sometimes helpful other times not - sometimes will look up your request other times won't look unless you pay a fee - I've been very lucky on this one!

thank you for offering to see if a headstone is there

best wishes

 ;)

You are in luck, there is a headstone - photos attached.
