Title: May Marriage to identify
Post by: bme on Wednesday 07 August 13 04:24 BST (UK)
These are the ancestors:
England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index, 1837-1915
Name:   Charles May
Date of Registration:   Jul-Aug-Sep 1856
Registration District:   Wokingham
Inferred County:   Berkshire
Volume Number:   2 c
Page Number:   572
Records on Page:
Hannah Clark
Charles May

but
Charles MAY christened 12 August 1832 in Hurst, Berkshire, England is the son of Daniel & Lucy
while
Charles MAY christened 10 November 1833 in Hurst, Berkshire, England is the son of Joseph & Mary

Would the actual marriage certificate have the parent's details? Can I ask here if someone could check?

Very much appreciated, bme

The marriage certificate will show father's names and occupations.

BUT there is no way to look at certificates without buying them!
Cost is £9.25

Hi bme,

In the transcripts for Hurst available on-line;
http://history.hvs.org.uk/Hurst/PRM-1850.htm

the marriage of Charles May to Hannah Clark (minor)  13-9-1856 reveals his father to be Joseph May, labourer  and Hannah's father as William Clarke, Labourer with witnesses being;
William Brooker, Hannah May

Hope this helps,

Alan

Nice one, Alan! ;D
Good find.

Not all parish registers can be found online, so that was lucky for bme! ;D ;D

Hi KG,

Many thanks.
It was one of those sets of records I found a long time ago and just remembered it.

I only wish many more were freely available - perhaps one day......!!

Thank you for you assistance ... it throws a spanner into the works as we were veering towards the other alternative ... oh well, back to the drawing board, or family tree  ..

Hi bme,

I think you will find that  Joseph & Daniel May are brothers whose parents are James & Hannah.

Daniel bapt. 7-8-1796 and Joseph bapt. 3-7-1803

This is the address to go to for  Bapts., marriages & burials;

James May - married - Hannah Dodd 3-9-1792

Definitely brothers but
Charles May son of Daniel & Lucy was born 12 August 1832
and
Charles May son of  Joseph & Mary was born 10 November 1833

We had incorrectly identified D&L's Charles as our direct line whereas in J&M's Charles is correct ..

It ended up not as bad as it could have been - especially if J&M's Charles was out-of-family .. It is now a matter of detaching the "line" from one Charles and re-attaching it to the other [correct one] .. Learning all the time !!
