Title: B.Q.M.S
Post by: suey on Tuesday 06 August 13 13:25 BST (UK)

I have a chap promoted to B.Q.M.S in September 1915, this rank? appears three times among his papers so I'm sure they are correct, I've looked online but can't find these initials in among the lists of abbreviations....can anyone help?

As an aside, I don't think he was involved in WW1 he seems to have spent his Army career in India.

The initials stand for Battery Quatermaster sergeant. My father was one in WW11.

Was he serving in an Artillery regiment? If so the rank would have been Battery Quarter Master Sergeant.
