Hi folk,
I'm trying to identify a Hudson Robinson Moffit who shows on Ancestry as in the Voter Registration in 1867 in Murray Township, Alameda, California, United States.
One of my ancestors was Hudson Robinson Moffit who last appears in the 1851 UK census. He was born in South Shields, Co Durham, UK in 1840, son of John Thompson James Moffat and Jane Nicholson.
Does anyone have him in their tree, or have any knowledge of him in California?
Any help very much welcomed.
Kind regards, Shirelass

Hi Shirelass,
Would appear Hudson Robinson Moffit was born in Maine - there are a few entries here:-

Hi Sandra,
Many thanks for the reply, but the Hudson Robinson Moffit I'm looking for was born in the U.K. I think he may have signed up for the American Civil War.
Kind regards,
Shirelass

It looks like the Hudson who was in the Civil War was from Maine, so probably the same guy mentioned above. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F9RH-H25

Thanks, Shellyesq,
I'll try and trace his baptism in Maine, to see who his parents were.

There is a possibility that you are off 8 years on his birth. This is probably his baptism in South Shields but this opens up the great possibility that we have two separate people involved - the South Shields one and the Maine one. However the South Shields one "disappears" as he is only seen on the South Shields baptism!

Hi barryd,
Hudson Robinson Moffitt baptised in 1832 is buried in South Shields in 1833. The next Hudson Robinson Moffitt's birth is registered in the July/Aug/Sept qtr of 1840 in South Shields, and he appears in both the 1841 and 1851 South Shields census. Thereafter, he vanishes from UK records.
Thank you for your reply.
Kind regards, Shirelass
