Title: Much Married and Missing
Post by: robinislander on Thursday 01 August 13 21:40 BST (UK)
I am trying to find out what happened to George Beaton Groves.
Born in Morningside on 29th May 1905. He married three times
1) 6/2/1932 to Janet Strachan Kelly in St Giles Edinburgh
2) 1938 to Jean Patterson Douglas in  Musselburgh
3) 1944 to Ethel Mary Duns or Waldie in Haymarket Edinburgh
which is where I lose him. He may have moved to Canada, but don't know when or where. Possibly died there, but may have moved back to Edinburgh, and died there, but can't find anything in Scotlandspeople.
Any ideas?

Hi robinislander,

I had a search on the National Archives of Scotland, http://www.nas.gov.uk/onlineCatalogue/, and I have found the dates of his first 2 divorces.

He divorced Janet S Kelly or Watt or Groves in 1939.

He divorced Jean P Douglas or Groves in 1957

These records are available at the NAS. It brings into question the 3rd marriage, if it went ahead it may have been bigamous.

Tom

PS I have checked on SP and the 3rd marriage did take place, possibly at Haymarket Registry Office, Edinburgh in 1944.

PPS I have just noticed that his second marriage may have been bigamous as well.

Many thanks tidybooks

It certainly looks as though the dates don't correspond, which throws doubt on the second and third marriages, and also some possible subsequent marriages of the brides.
