I have my gg grandparents marriage cert and the name of each father is listed.
If either or both fathers were dead at the time of the marriage would that be noted some how on the cert?
Thanks!
-
Only if the bride and groom, informed the person writing the details on the marriage certificate,
-
Drat.
Thanks though!

Civil registration of Catholic marriages began in 1864 and from 1845 for non-Catholic marriages. You can have a look at the online civil registration index (www.familysearch.org) but with a common name like Hugh Gallagher and not knowing the wife's maiden name it might be impossible to find them if there was a marriage listed (if a Catholic ceremony before 1864 it won't be there).
Any children born in Ireland after 1864? mother's maiden name will be on birth certificate.
Any children marry or die outside Ireland/England/Wales? mother's name may be listed on marriage or death certificate.

All I know they moved to England in 1848 and there first born child was my great grandad Bernard / barney he married grace ?
-
Any children born in England? (registration stated much earlier there and mother's name will be on birth certificate)
-
Yes all there children were born in England but can't find any birth ? Just find them on census Bernard was born in Wales in 1848 I think and most of the other children were born :) in Huddersfield

1871 Bernard states Huddersfield as POB.
Probably this one:
GALLAGHER Bernard Sept. 1849 Huddersfield 22 350

Hi Jim,
I don't think that is him.
1861 3261/ 103/29
has a Bernard Gallagher 12 yrs old with mother Margaret and in
1851 2295/ 404/ 34
as Barnet Galla Lyen.
They are a difficult family to trace though - seem to move around a bit.

Yes it's tricky.
I notice in 1871 there's a William Mac quire 25 b.Huddersfield listed as son-in-law with Winfred Mac Quire 18 b. Derbys. listed as dau. -in- law.
I wonder if William is an illegitimate son of Ann Gallagher.
-
Winifred Gallagher married William McGuire in 1870, Huddersfield.
-
That's another that bites the dust.
How about this one
Births Jun 1852
Gallagher Winifred Bradford 9b 93

Hi Alexis Sally,
I realise we rambled yesterday trying to find this marriage certificate - why do you think it is probably Monaghan? In 1871, it looks as though Hugh has Cavan as a birthplace?

heywood I'm only going on what I found in the census Hugh was born in 1825 and Ann in 1828 and for both of them it said county Monaghan :) but in another census it just said Ireland xx
-
I see it now I was only looking at 1871 :)
1871 in Longwood Yorkshire Hugh and Ann show County 'Cavern' which I am assuming to be Cavan
1881 shows Monaghan
They are next door to each other though.

That's interesting.
You could check it with one of the children's birth certificates for Ann's maiden name. I think some are in the registration indexes.

Hi again,
I would say that this is Bernard's birth registration on Free BMD
Barnat Galahar March quarter 1848 Brecknock vol 26 pg 269
Just found them in 1861 2553/ 79/24
Ollerset Hamlet, Derbyshire
Hugh Collogan 38 yrs Maker and hawker of tinware b Ireland Town of Cavin
Ann Collogan 35 yrs b Ireland Farmonick
Bernard Collogan 13 yrs b Brecon Wales
Winifred Collogan 7 yrs b Durham Bishop Auckland
Rosa Collogan 5 yrs b Derbyshire New Mills
Hugh Collogan 3 yrs b Durham Bishop Auckland
Mary Collogan 1yr b Yorkshire Halifax
Farmonick could be Fermanagh
Looking at this, it would be good to get that certificate for Bernard because of the gap between Bernard and Winifred. There could be a second marriage for Hugh, or there could be more births with deaths of infants.

I'm not going to ask how on earth you managed to find that.
Good bit of sleuthing anyway.

Thanks Jim. ;)
-
Hi Alexis Sally,
Just wondering what you think? Did you have the family in 1861?
Bernard's birth certificate should help your search.
