I am looking to find Frances A (E) Anderson daughter of William A Anderson and Alfreda (Elfreda) Anderson of Seattle, King Co. Washington. She was born in 1920 in Oak Lake, King, Washington. She married Edward Johnston in 1935. Edward's middle name may have been Hite. She is listed in the 1940 census as Phllyis but we know that it was actually Frances. She and her husband Edward were living with her parents and the surname was Johnson but it should have read "Johnston". His parents were Hite and Gladys Johnston. Any help would be appreciated.

Just a link so people can see what was discussed previously: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=535533.0
Without more recent information or exact dates of birth, it may be difficult to pin down Frances & Edward in the later years, especially considering their common names. Maybe looking into what happened to their relatives would give some hints, such as a mention in an obituary? It looks like Hite died in 1967 - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JTWK-732

I see Edward & Frances in Seattle city directories up to 1951, but I don't see a definite match for either of them in the 1953 city directory. Hite & Gladys and William & Freda are in all the Seattle city directories up to 1960, which is the latest one I could find.

The Washington State Library has a free obituary look-up service. http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/obituaries.aspx
It might be worth asking them to see if there is an obituary for Hite or any other parents or siblings of Frances & Edward that you have deaths for.
-
Thank you, I will try that. Frances was an only child but Edward had quite a few siblings. This has been a difficult search andI thank you for your suggestions.

Have you checked the Washington State Digital Archives? They have marriage, land, death, and other records, including images of the original records in many cases.

The Social Security death index entry that I linked to above has the same birth date that you mention and last residence of Seattle, Washington, but a death date of Mar. 1967. The Washington death index also has a Hite Johnston who died 24 Mar. 1967 in Seattle. I don't see any other likely Hites with the same birth date and different death date.

Dblanch.... Your Grandma Helen would be a sister to the Edward who married my relative Frances. Their father's name was Hite Edward Johnston. His son was named Edward Hite Johnston. Helen and Edward would have only been 1 year apart in age. The children of Hite and Gladys were Eleanor, Helen, Edward, Mildred, Norman and Elmer.
I have the same birth year and birth place as you do for Hite. We are definately talking about the same people.
The Frances I am seeking would be your great aunt by marriage to your Great Uncle Edward. I cannot find out what happened to them. Maybe we can work on this together? I didn't get to examine the attachment before it was removed.

So My grandmothers, brothers wife. Interesting. In my notes from my mother, I have at lease a few notes on all the kids but Edward. He may have been a very private person. All she said was Died 1967, Seattle, Wa.. possibly March.
Another interesting fact was that all the kids had nicknames. like Norman Was Casey, Mildred was Milly, Elmer was Bud etc However Edward has no NicName.
Are you related to Edward or Frances his wife?

Will share with you what I have but have to get to work right now

Hite died in March of 1967. Are you saying that his son Edward died at the same time?
I have a photo of Edward and Frances marriage certificate. On November 26, 1935, at the age of 16, Frances married Edward Johnston. He was about 19 when married. Both mothers were witnesses. Mrs. H. (Hite) Johnston, and Mrs. W. A. Anderson and they signed the marriage certificate as witnesses to the marriage.

hey, something is off with the date, I do not believe they both passed in March of 67.
Who are the two mothers that were present? I would like to grow the branch with you for a bit,.
Also,,, Edwards sister Helen Louise Johnston ( my gramma) Do you know who she married or have any in on him>>?
-
No I have no information on who Helen married. I am trying to find out what happened to Edward and Frances. The two mothers that were present were Mrs. H. Johnson and Mrs.W. A. Anderson. There is a picture of Edward and Frances marriage certificate on Ancestry.com. Just search for Edward Johnston and the date November 28, 1935 under marriages and you will see it. I do not know if I am allowed to put it on this site.

Looking at the 1920 census, Frances was listed as 6 months old. As the census was done in January, 1920, that probably puts her actual birthdate around June/July 1919.
-
In the 1930 census, there was William A, Elfreda M, and Frances E. living in the household
In the 1940 census, William was 52, Elfreda was 49, Phllyis, 20 who is actually Frances ( I suspect sometimes the enumerators heard or spelled names incorrectly) and married to Edward Johnson (should be Johnston), 24. They are all living with William and Elfreda, Frances parents.
-
Frances would be a first cousin to my father.
-
Diane,
Did you see the marriage certificate?
-
Diane,
You asked about your Gramma Helen's husband. His name was Thomas C Phillips. He died in 1983, a year before your Gramma. I found out that Edward died in 1961 but that is all I could find out. I am going to keep looking for his wife Frances.
