I am trying to find out more about my great great grandfather Francis ROBINS who was born in Buckland in Hertfordshire around 1880.
He moved to North West London later where he married Ellen Martha RUSSELL in 1907. From this point he is traceable but his early life is finding rather hard to find out about as I have been unable to locate him or his family in Buckland.
Can anyone help me find the elusive Francis ROBINS of Buckland, Herts?
Thanks!

Hi
His 1907 marriage cert shows his father as John - occ labourer. Neither of the witnesses were surname Robins.

At the time of his birth - Buckland was in the Royston registration district and there is no birth recorded there for him
-
I notice he is Frank on the 1911 index but there is no birth under that spelling either. There is an 1879 birth in Luton for a Frank Robins but his father was George

Hi
There is more than one "Buckland" in Hertfordshire.
Martha Ellen would seem to be born "Tring, HEARTS"
He "Buckland, HEARTS"
Do we assume not very literate (Hearts!)?
Maybe using a localised name for the area?
eg using Buckland for Buckland Common (south of Tring)?
However, there is a Buckland between Tring and Aylesbury, (west of Tring)
He may even have been born in BUCKS.
irrespective of where he was registered or where he thought he was born.
Do they know their exact ages?
It would also make sense for locals to marry?

Thanks for the info / suggestions. I will look into it a bit more in depth later this week but at the moment it is all still a bit of a mystery! :)
