Title: 1841 Census - Isaac Stride
Post by: sarra on Monday 22 July 13 01:25 BST (UK)
Would appreciate a look-up of the 1841 Census, for Isaac Stride.

I have him on the 1851 & 1861 Census.

Isaac Stride born c.1794 St Luke, Middlesex England. He married Sarah in 1829 - 2 children born to them.  On the 1841 Census Sarah is living with her parents and two children in, Islington Middlesex - Issac is not with them.

The 1851 census Isaac Stride is mistranscribed as (grandson) in household of Ann Jaques/Jacques - at Clapham Surrey.
The 1861 census Isaac Stride is in the same household - listed as Annuitant.
Isaac died in 1862.

If a fresh pair of eyes can find him - it would be appreciated.

I'm not too sure if I am posting this on the right board.

Thanks.....

No I have had no luck finding him on the 1841 census - seems to be invisible - can't even find his 'lady' Ann Jaques.
I did find some of those others you have posted, but did not have the announcement of the wedding - however I have it now - thanks for pointing me in that direction.
Many thanks for your input.

Death notice for Isaac Stride in his sixty eighth year in the Morning Post July 1861.
Some old death notices give a lot of information - however not for Isaac Stride.  However I did glean a piece of useful info from it - death date. Also from another source says he was buried 3 July 1861, seems strange that it was a week before he was buried.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for this newspaper anonymity for their marriage. Not much info for Isaac Stride- even the witness to this marriage were both from Sarah Venn's family.
Isaac Stride seems to have been the black sheep of the family.

Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure if this is our Isaac Stride - in Colebrooke Row - need to investigate more on that.  We have connected  Isaac Stride to the one b/bap 1794 St Andrew, Middlessex. His siblings were John - Thomas - Lewis? all recorded under 'Street' - parents - Isaac Street & Ann. We have some doubts now because of other infor that has come up.
I thought if we could find him on the 1841 census it would help us.

Thank you for your help.

Sorry to confuse.
But seeing as I have ,here's all the info I have on John and Samuel Stride.
The Will of John Stride gentleman Clement le Danes 21.6.1825 PROB 11/1700/336 at the national archives may help decide one way or another if he's Isaac Stride's father.
John was buried St John Hampsted 7.5.1825 age 80 from Clement le Danes .Notes on the page say he was the Steward of this manor for 43 years and was buried C.V. which I take to be church vault.(others are P for pauper or 1st,2nd or 3rd burial ground).
11.2.1775 apprenticeship of William Robert Duill to John stride attorney of St Margaret's Westminster
11.7.1777 apprenticeship of Thomas Chandless to John Stride Clement le Danes attorney.
20.12 1784 same Alexander  Adams
1780 Poll book Westminster John Stride Carey St  voted for R and L(whoever they are)
1780 Poll book John Stride gentleman Westminster voted for Rodney
1818 Poll book 24 Carey St attorney voted Romilley and Maxwell
1819 sa,e gentleman voted for Lamb.
1784 Bailey's directory John Stride of Carey St attorney
1798 Lond on Tax records John Stride Carey st renting from Henry Hoyle Oddie £55
1805 Holden's triennial directory 24 Carey St
1805 land tax Carey St John Stride £5 12 6 next to Yeates crt.
1810 same from a Mr Decker £5 12 6
1820 land tax renting from Thomas Wright Carey St £4 16 3
St Luke's Old Street
Chiswell St 1790 John Stride £16 2 8d
1791 Artillery Court John Stride £16 2 (next to Chiswell ST)
1792 same John Stride  rent £21 tax £1 11" 6d
1795 same John Stride rent £21 £1 1
1796 same
1797 Artillery Crt Samuel Stride rent £21 £1 1 tax
1798 Samuel stride £1 15 9
1799 John Stride Rent £21 tax £1 15 9
John every year to 1811 at same building when rent now £26 tax £1 15 2
1820 rent is now £40
After that generally only surnames are given for that area and a Mr stride is at Barnbury Place /Upper St until 1831
1855 at no 5 Colebrook Row is a Mr Stride
There is an another will John Stride merchant Islington 3/5/1854 PROB 11/2191/49 which may be the latter John Stride from Artillery Court.
The 1848 Post Office Directory there is a Lewis Stride manager of the National Provincial Bank of England at their Dover branch which may be your son of Isaac and Ann.
1851 PO Lewis Stride architect 6 Bloomsbury Square.
John and William Stephen Stride banker's agents 41 Westfield
1860 Blue book Lewis now at no 5.
Will have a good look around for more on Isaac and Ann.
Sorry again for placing doubts.

Good Morning -Ciderdrinker again
You're right ,it does seem that Lewis Stride is doing the name change  ,same as Issac.
In 1841 he's at Custom's Quay Dover
Lewis Stride 45 banker N
Margaret 45 N
Catherine 11 N
Elizabeth 10 N
Louisa 8 N
Thomas 5 N
Arthur 4
In 1851 it says he was born St Lukes in 1797 .
There's a marriage at St Peter's Leeds to Margaret Bischoff 8.4.1829 announced in the Leeds Intelligencer 9.4.1829.Not got a sub to look.
His will 10.8.1864 leaves £3000 and says he is late of 1 Norman terrace Dover died 23.4.1864 exec Arthur Lewis Stride  so civil engineer and Charles Bischoff 19 Coleman St solicitor.
Possible death Isaac Street Senior buried 20.12.1831 age 74years Parsonage Lane St Andrews Enfield chimney sweeper.(but to be honest don't think it's yours)
John Stride burial 29.3.1854 age 67 44 st Albans Villas Kentish town St Pancras St James which may fit with that earlier will of John stride merchant Islington 1854.
I think the 1851 census for Isaac Stride he is their guardian not her grandson.Brother Henry A seems to be Henry Attree Jaques who married 2.9.1851 Trinity church Marylebone of Clapham St John son of John dec gent married Georgina Hannah Amelia Spratt d of Richard Spratt army captain.
A will for John Jaques gent St Anne Limehouse 17.11.1846 PROB/2045/63 may be his father.
Once again sorry to confuse - still can't spot Isaac in 1841.
All for now

Ciderdrinker,
You certainly have been very busy digging up all this information.
I have printed it all out and will try and see what fits with the family I'm researching.
I agree he is not Isaac Stride (the chimney sweep) - I did come across this one myself.
What I have found and I think is correct he was from the Bankers, Merchants and Agents.

Many thanks for all your help.

Hi,

I found this in the 1841 census.

Isaac Strip
Jacks Bridge,
Lingfield,
Surrey.

Piece 1077
Book 7/59
Page 10

The name could be wrongly transcribed.

Ciderdrinker
Ciderdrinker, I've been on FamilySearch.org, myself and found the baptisms for John & Ann Stride's children.  I'm quite confused because there are several entries for these baptisms - the non-conformist - Dr Williams Library, London.  I think I will post a query on the appropriate board - asking if someone could explain why there are these entries on FamilySearch.org - because I have no idea what it all means.

Appreciate all your help.

Isaac Street , chimney sweep, buried Enfield 1831, is not a transcription error for your relation, Isaac Stride.

Thank you for posting this. I did check this death  entry and this Isaac Street snr. was from a long line of 'Chimney Sweeps'.
I suppose what has us confused is that -Isaac Stride and his siblings were all baptised under the name 'Street'. Then again it's possible that we have the wrong family, but in view of the fact that we can't find any baptism records for these siblings under 'Stride', we thought this was a possible match.

Thanks...

Sorry I can't help you with Isaac Street snr. I assume you have connected this Isaac Street snr. to the Isaac Street (b.1792 -1872) who married Kezia Withers??

Yes, Sarra. I'm just trying to connect the Isaac Street family of chimney sweeps in Enfield to my Street chimney sweeps in Loughton and Buckhurst Hill.
Thanks,

Angie,
I don't envy you.  I did not realize there were so many 'Chimney Sweeps'.
I came across one on the 1841 census her name was Ann Street - and she is listed as a 'Chimney Sweep'. I wondered if she was the wife/widow of Isaac Street snr, because she was from the same area.
Happy hunting.

Yes, Sarra, she was.

It's very addictive, but can be frustrating when you think you're close to an elusive connection. However, I have made progress with my paternal grandmother's line, so now have a set of greatx6 grandparents.

Good luck with your research!
