Northampton Mercury - Saturday 28 March 1835

"Bedford Lent Assizes

In addition to the trials which we reported last week, the following cases were disposed of :-

James and Charles Beeson being convicted of a burglary in the house of Mrs. Cook, of Houghton Regis, on the night of December 4, judgement of death was recorded against them. A similar sentence awaited the prisoners, had this prosecution failed, for wounding, with intent to murder, Spicer, the Countess of Bridgewater's gamekeeper, for which their accomplice Kempster, was sentenced to death at the Hertford assizes."

And there is a long article here > Hertford Mercury and Reformer - Tuesday 10 March 1835 > which I am way too lazy to type out - about Thomas Kempster and the gamekeeper William Spicer, and the Beeson bros. were there too. You can access the article on this paysite http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/ or I think Findmypast has the same thing.

There was possibly another brother - Thomas bn abt 1803 in Great Missendon.  By the 1841 census he is married to Charlotte with several children (Elizabeth, William, John, Charles, Thomas)  Ancestry has the surname transcribed as Berson

Charles and James said they had 5 other brothers and 2 sisters living when they were transported, although sometimes you will find that convicts from very large families will not name them all.

Mother Elizabeth, brothers John, William, Thomas, Samuel and Job, sisters Mary and Sarah. NP = Native Place.  James was married with one child, wife Caroline at Hertford.

Often you will find that other members of the family would voluntarily emigrate, so worth checking the assisted immigration records.

Hi I am relation! Thomas Beeson and Elizabeth Lacey are my 5th grandparents.  3 of their sons were sent to Australia.
Samuel b 1810 died in the tragedy of the George III wreck off Tasmania in 1835.
James b 1808 left behind a wife Caroline Hill and a baby daughter Emma. He died in Tasmania in 1878.
Charles b 1815 married another convict Jane Hartley, he was pardoned in 1847; they had several children and he died in 1880.
What is your connection please?
