Hi I am researching my wife's family, her grandfather Robert John Edward Malcolm died in 1943 in Burma during WW2, the following link gives more information about him.
http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2823804/MALCOLM,%20ROBERT%20EDWARD%20JOHN
His parents lived in Bloomfield, Belfast at the time of his death.
Can anyone help me with this search?
Thanks in advance,
Wul

Wul,
A better bet might be Arthur George Malcolm who married Florence Lilian Cottle in 1911 in St. Marks Dundela Church of Ireland, Parish of Holywood, Belfast. The fathers' names were Robert Malcolm and Frederick John Cottle.
-
Wul- you'll need to remove the screen-shot and replace it with the link to the correct census page.
There's no way to tell if that is the correct family- Robert's birth certificate would confirm names of both parents but I'd be inclined to think kingskerswell's Arthur George Malcolm is more likely.
That Arthur Malcolm is buried Dundonald Cemetery (D1 543)-
Dorothy Malcolm, age 21, Shelter Beersbridge Road (394 Beersbridge Road), died 5 May 1941
Florence Lily Malcolm, age 61, 394 Beersbridge Rd, died City Hospital 9 Sept.1949
William Malcolm, age 29, 394 Beersbridge Road, died The Royal Infirmary Hull Yorks 7 Mar.1954
Arthur Malcolm, age 83, 394 Beersbridge Rd., died 18 Nov.1965

So, it this is the correct family they lost two children in WWII-

1918- Malcolm, A., engineer, 394 Beersbridge Road Upper

Apparently there wasn't an air raid shelter on Beersbridge Road so some residents might have gone to Avondale St.-

Thank you very much kingskerswell and aghadowey for this fantastic information, I have ordered a birth certificate from ScotlandsPeople because Robert left a child behind in Dumfries, Scotland on his way to war in 1943!

Sorry for my stupidity but I cannot find them in the 1911 Irish census, Kingkerswell he does not appear on the lists although Arthur George Malcolm does appear in the English 1911 census in Medway, Kent. I think the Malcolm line may only be in Ireland because of the war?
-
Wul,
I tend to agree with you. Arthur's names sound very English and, like you, I can find no match to his family in Ireland. The Cottle name seems to have been in what is now the Republic of Ireland, mainly Dublin and Galway.

If kingskerswell did find the correct parents they were married in Belfast in 1912 so not sure what you mean by only being in Ireland because of the war.
You really need to start with a birth certificate for Robert to get names of both parents.
-
The Arthur George Malcolm you found in Kent in 1911 was only 19-

You are right I will wait until I get the birth certificate I have ordered and then move on from there, many thanks.

The Cottle family may have originated in England?

That Florence Lily Cottle born 1884 and the Arthur George Malcolm in Kent (1911) born c1892.
Malcolm family could have been from Scotland rather than England...

Could be right, also searching for BMD's in Northern Ireland is a joke!
I assume this is the correct link?

Robert John Edward Malcolm was my uncle and his parents were Arthur Malcolm & Florence Cottle from Frome in Somerset. Delighted that there is so much information about him around. Would like to know more about everyone researching his history. I didn't know he was married. I have visited his grave in Kanchanaburi in Thailand.
