Hi All,
Trying to find this person in more detail.
I have her marriage to Thomas Thurman in Cotgrave 30 April 1793 and then what I believe is her in 1851 Census, Widow in Tollerton stating born Cotgrave about 1768 ?

hi Chris,
Marriage of Richard Braley & Elizabeth Wishorn at Cotgrave Church 7 Sept 1760
Children:
christenings:
29 Sept 1761 Ann buried 5 July 1761
26 Nov 1774 William (cannot find a burial for this William but thre is a Francis buried in 26 March 1775 son of Ricd & Eliz so wonder if this should be William as no christening for this Francis and as this info is from my NFHS discs I'll check against the actual records in the archives in case it was mis-transcribed.)
23 Jun 1776 William
30 Jan 1779 Francis buried 8 Feb 1778
Mary you already have.
There's a burial for Richard Brairly 8 Dec 1782 no age down.

Hi NG,
Would there be any earlier information available on these 2, Richard Brearley/Braley and Elizabeth Wishorn in the NFHS data ?

Hi Chris,
Cannot find a christening for Richard and the only one possible for Elizabeth is 11 Feb 1715 daughter of James & Eliza Wissaw siblings were:
James 11 Aug 1717
Thomas 13 Jul 1722
James Wishaw and Elizabeth Blagg married 1 Dec 1711
Elizabeth wife of James was buried 4 Oct 1720 not sure if its the same Elizabeth and if Thomas was born before she died and christened later.
Maybe second marriage for James Wishaw to Mary Hoe on 13 Jan 1721
Children were John 11 Dec 1723
Samuel 14 Feb 1727 buried 13 Dec 1736
Cannot find a burial for Mary or son John,
but a possible 3rd marriage for James to Ann Jallands 30 July 1738
children were Samuel 22 Feb 1739 (there's a burial 4 Feb 1739 but will check this)
John 24 July 1743 buried 16 Aug 1744
Mary 28 July 1745
Ann 13 Mar 1745
Sarah 17 Feb 1752 Buried 14 Aug 1748
James ?? Oct 1754 buried 24 April 1762
Richard 27 Jan 1758 buried 13 April 1759
Richard 3 Jan 1761
James was buried 16 Mar 1781 and Ann widow of James buried 9 May 1791.
Like I said not sure if it's the same James that married 3 times.

Hi Notts girl,
Thanks for all this.
Wishorn, Wissaw, Wishaw all seems possible in that era of literacy.
I am assuming all of this is Cotgrave information,
The 3rd marriage and subsequent James death look more like they were the second James b 1715, son of James than the original.
I have a couple of other deaths/burials presumed at Cotgrave which i have not traced yet, If i get the names together would you mind having a look for those ?
Thanks again

Hi Again,
On reflection i am not sure that the only daughter Elizabeth mentioned here, born 1715 was my one.
My Elizabeth did not marry till 1760 ( So 45 years ) and had children till 1778 (So 64 years old )????
Pity there is not an Elizabeth born about 1740 (Of the later James marriage ? ) There is a suitable gap there

Hi Chris, my mums maiden name was Thurman and we are descendants of Mary Brierley. I have her bapt at Cotgrave in 1768, the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth nee Wishaw and marrying Thomas Thurman in 1793.
Did you know that their son William, from whom I am descended was forced out of Tollerton by the Squire in a dispute over land or that their son Thomas was sentenced to death, commuted to transportation for life?.
My great grandfather Charles Thurman wrote several accounts of his life and a diary extract says that Mary was said to be a great talker by her grandson Thomas who was Charles father.
I also see that you are interested in the Voce and Lewin families, well the above William Thurman was married to Rachael Voce the daughter of Samuel and Mary Hanbury and I also have various references to the Lewin family. Hope this is of interest. best regards, Pete.

Hi Pete,
Thanks for your reply,
We are searching the same lines of ancestry here, I am descended from Thomas Thurman & Mary Brierleys younger daughter Mary Thurman (Baptised 18 Feb 1806 Tollerton)
Mary Brierley is my 3rd Gt Grandmother, so I am probably 4th cousin of your mother
I knew of Thomas being deported to Australia from various documents and a reference in these to Williams dispute with the squire Pendock Barry, but did not know he was forced out of the village by the evil squire, I do have him later in Edwalton though.
You probably have the Thurman Methodist history at Cotgrave I guess.
My Mary Thurman married William Lewin so I am interested in the Lewins also, I willl send you a Personal Message to communicate more

For anyone interested in Mary Brierley 1768, I have a handwritten book by Charles Thurman 1861 that has a first hand account of her.
Mary is my ggg grandmother.
My name is John Thurman, grandson of Frederick Octavius Thurman.
