Title: Can you put a smile on this lady's face?
Post by: bearkat on Sunday 12 June 05 20:20 BST (UK)
I wonder if you could have a go at restoring this photo for me.  I believe she is Caroline WOODFORD nee BECK born 1802.
Could anyone hazard a guess as to the date of the photo, a glass ambrotype, I think.  I've looked at various photo sites but the clothes don't seem to match anything there.
   Many thanks

Hi Bearkat

Have you seen this link it could be 1854 or later. Most photo dating sites seem to start at 1860.

Looks like 1850s.

Look through the photos until you find Godleys Ladys Book and go to the fashions of each month.

Haven't been able to put a smile on her face ----- or do ANYTHING with baby ------ but have tried to clean her up a bit for you.

Thank you for having a try.  She's looking much brighter.

I also think that is likely to have been taken in the 1850s.  Wondered when the inner frill of the bonnet went out of fashion.

Hi Ken,
Doesn't she look amazing in colour.
Good to see her without all the background scratches.
   Thanks

I had a crack  at this one. First cleaned up the scratches and dirt. Then adjusted the over exposed area in the center of the Lady's chest area. then sharpened the baby's face and finally  applied neat image filter to remove noise.

What a great result. The baby's looking much sharper.
I really appreciate everyone's efforts.
Still trying to figure out the date.  She would have been 50 in 1852 yet she's barely going grey.
She does look miserable.  Perhaps times were hard (although they could afford to have a photograph taken) or perhaps she was bored with having to sit still for so long.

Nearly! on the woman and the baby. Just a quick bit of plastic surgery!
