Title: Porlock

During WW2 my father was stationed somewhere around Porlock.He was in the RAF and was involved in radar.Does anyone know where the station may have been in the Porlock area?He used to talk about walking up Porlock hill every day to get to the station.On pay day he had to do it twice a day and he wore his boots out regularly!Thankyou.

The Old Tannery in Porlock was used by the army in WW2. Maybe this was it?

Thankyou, Ambly, for the info.It certainly is a possibilty that the Tannery was where he was based.Because it was radar he was involved in I would have thought he would have been on higher ground?Who knows?He was based in other areas of the country during WW2 as a `Beam Bender`,sending false radar beams in order to deter German planes.Again,thankyou for your help.

There was a station ( radar/ radio post ) on Stent hill up above Culbone and therefore at the very top of Porlock Hill and Smallacombe just near the Culbone stone. Also a gun battery nearby no doubt to defend it . I think that is correct anyway.
