A marriage certificate from late 1930's gives an address of "Hasskell Avenue" in Crewe. I cannot find such a road in maps. There is a small place a few miles away called "Hassall" and I wondered if that could be the road named after that village, but I find no avenue of that name. The nearest I can get to it is "Atholl Avenue" which is still there. I wonder if any local person could have another suggestion for the name of the road.
Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

Hello jayne66
Just telephoned my brother-in-law in Crewe he doesn't recognise the street name, can you tell us which church the marriage took place? This could be helpful.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately the marriage was a Civil Marriage and took place at the Register Office. I have scoured several maps and cannot find the Avenue. Maybe the Registrar wrote it as he heard it which I have had before on some certificates. I think I must give up on this one.
Thank you again marthaannie

Hello Jayne66
Possibly email Crewe Registrar's Office and give the details of the marriage certificate and ask if they can help you with the street name ???

Hi
Do you know where either of them were in 1911? If they were born then!

Thank you both for the suggestions. Will try Register Office. Only the husband was born 1911 and his address is correct. The wife's parents were in a different County>
Many thanks again

I was born in Crewe and have lived thereabouts all my life and have never heard of Hasskell Avenue - in fact I lived in the next street to Athol Avenue.
Can you provide their names or other info to try and pinpoint the area - they may crop up in other directories or their names may ring a bell.

Hi, could you please post a scan of the address, so that we can see if there are any clues to whether there are any further possibilities of an address from the writing?

Peter and Kathb - Thank you for your replies. Local Register Office solved it. The name was badly written on the certificate. It was Harebell Avenue (near Stewart Street/Alton Street. It was apparently later renamed.
Appreciate all the help received here! Thank you.
