Hello, I am looking for information about pvt Thomas Brooks of the 65th Regiment, in particular, any information from when he enlisted and when he left.
Details I have of him are listed below. In addition to this, I can say he married Mary Sweeny (or Sweeney) originally from Cork, and that he died in New Plymouth, New Zealand in 1865.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Regimental Number: 2824
Rank: Pte
Surname : BROOKS
First name: Thomas
Date of Enlistment : 23/01/51
Place of Discharge : NP = New Plymouth
Date of Discharge: 17/01/63
Type of Discharge: C = Completion of Engagement
Ship : TB = True Briton

There is a history of the 65th Regiment of Foot in New Zealand here:

As your chap was a private, I doubt if much information about him survives?

Thanks for that. Yes, I doubt there would be much information about, but am hoping maybe someone will have some access or know how to access records of his recruitment. Even to find out where he was from would be a bonus!

Have you tried FindMyPast?
You can buy credits to look up their sources:
1861Worldwide Army List (10 Private Thomas Brooks on there)
British Army Service Records (would help if you knew roughly when he was born; 26 records found!)

Have just found his National Archives reference number on findmypast: WO12/8865.

HELLO AGAIN.
Does anyone know a pathway to locate enlistment papers for members of the 65th Regiment. By sighting the enlistment papers I am hoping to discover my ancestor William Brooks's (2849) date of birth and his parent/s names. Family information handed down has proved incorrect. William enlisted 25th Jan 1851.
Cheers.
