Title: Can anyone date this car
Post by: Eyesee on Friday 05 July 13 21:39 BST (UK)
Can anyone name the model and year of this car.

We know it is a Crossley, and the photo was taken late 1915 early 1916, our summer as the sun is very high.

Believe it could be a 15HP Model with Tourer body.

It is in New Zealand.

www.crossley-motors.org,uk has lots of pictures, I would put this at 1911-1912,as soon after that
they seem to have changed from wire-spoked wheels to artillery type ones, possibly a 20hp.

I want one  :)

Although in no way answering your question, the shadow of the dog looks rather long to me.  :-\

Just another thought, the chassis complete with wheels and bonnet would have been ordered from crossley. who would then send it to the coachbuilder, by the time they had built the body and shipped it to new Zealand a year could have gone by.

they were upmarket expensive cars

Back wheel arch looks a bit pushed in compared to the catalogue. And what is that box looking thing under the running board in the photo?

I suspect the box on the running board is in fact a tool box. Kitted up with whatever was necessary to keep the vehicle running whilst (did I really just say that, lol) on the road.
