I'm very lost when it comes to understanding what graveyards were in use in the 2nd half of the 19th century Waterford City, and where to find relevant records for these. Hopefully someone can help. Drove to Waterford once to search - a lot of wasted time and effort. Planning another trip and would love plan the trip constructively.
1. In which graveyards could a Catholic from the Manor Street/Beresford Street area have been buried between about 1840-1900? Names, locations and religion would be wonderful.
2. Is it the case that some Catholics were buried in COI graveyards? If so, would the COI death records contain these people's death records?
3. When did Ballygunner Cemetry begin to be used to bury city dwellers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. !!...

Ballygunner was opened in 1841, other Catholic graveyards for that period would be Holy Trinity Without , Ballybricken, and Saint Otteran's opened 1848, some burials also took place at Kilbarry and Kill St. Lawrence's graveyards.

Waterford City council has a register of deaths for St. Otterans, the graveyard is on the Cork Road, I don't think there is a burial register for Holy Trinity Without , Ballybricken, I have recorded all the monuments there, an entrance to the Church at Ballybricken is at the Mayor's Walk , as well as on Ballybricken.

Hi vasaborg hope you can help me out. Trying to find a grave in Ballygunner for William Fitzpatrick who died in 1919. William was a business man and a councillor in Waterford city. He married late in life and his wife Ellen died 20th June 1931. There were no children. Many thanks

Erected by Henry Lee of the city of Waterford in memory of his brother Thomas who died on the 11th of April 1875 aged 34 years . Also Henry Lee who died on the 28th September 1880 aged 46 years. Also his brother Patrick J. Lee died 7th September 1899 aged 73 years. And his sister Ellen Lee, Tramore who died 3rd June 1910 aged 96 years. Also of William Fitzpatrick Tivoli Tramore died 12th August 1919 aged 80 years. And his wife Ellen Fitzpatrick died 20th June 1931 aged 76 years.

Do you mid if I ask what the information source is? If it's a list that you have when was it recorded? The reason that I ask is because I'm thinking that it may have headstone inscriptions recorded before some of the headstones fell over or became unreadable..

I recorded all the inscriptions in Ballygunner in 1995. Sorry I don't know where its located if you write to the Parish Priest at the Church of St. Joseph and Benildus, Newtown Road Waterford City they have a map that would locate it.
