Title: New Forest Coopers
Post by: jaco52 on Monday 01 July 13 12:18 BST (UK)
Hello
I'm a cooper from the New Forest, i have recently started searching my family. i have succeeded to my 3x Great Aunt Eliza Cooper and her 2 brothers George, Goliath. All probably born 1880-1900.
My nan remembers a uncle Goliath, Auntie Eliza, and granddad George.

Does anyone recognize these names or have these members in there family.

Please help if you know any information

I'm struggling too.   ???

Goliath COOPER ought to be easy to spot but I can't see him on a census or a birth on freeBMD.

Do you know if they were travellers?  Goliath was often a name used by the travelling community.

post modified - I see from your first post that this family were indeed travellers.  There were notorious for changing surnames.  You will have to do some digging to unravel this.  Do you know anything else about the family which might help us?

Hi,

There's a marriage registration for a Goliath Cooper in 1962 in Hampshire.   :-\

Hi

1962? Still alive?

Ray

Without more details from the OP ................it could have been a marriage late in life.   :-\

doesnt really matter - no spammer is ever going to find him!

I've noticed before that Travellers often get married 'within the system', but rarely get births recorded - deaths usually of course.

Suspect that 'Cooper' is married name of sister Eliza, but looking through 1871-1901 census for a Hampshire-linked Goliath doesnt show up one with siblings Eliza & George - might be timing, but suspect this one isnt going to fly !

The only Goliath dying in Hants c1920:-

Deaths Dec 1921

Cole,  Goliath  81  Alton  2c 206

He can be seen in the last couple of census - but the early ones ??

Does the surname Crocker ring any bells ?

Good find as fits with OP's PM...............but not with suggested birth years..........  I think without more details we are stuck.

"possible, but unlikeley he was born in 1870-1900, i have found a date which is 1875 he would of been 100 !"

So, Jaco, would you share with all of us what you have?

I had pm too - just to say info had come from a rellie.
Have also asked for info to go on to here, not via pms.

So, it could be there are no sources, just family hearsay.

In whgich case we need to start with something more concrete and work back. These people are said to be great aunt and brothers. So there should be another sibling who is op's grandparent - perhaps we can find the family fron there. But, of course, need the info first!
