Hi, I'm trying to trace the family of my GG Grandmother Jane Armitage nee Lawler, she was born at sea in 1842 returning to England with her father John who was an Irishman who served in the British Army, I can find no information on her mother. The next time she appears is aged 16 an inmate at the Manchester Workhouse New Bridge Street she goes on to marry Benjamin Armitage in 1871 at St Chads Church..
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Hutch
Is this the family in 1881: -
Benjamin Armitage (50) born Ireland, labourer with Jane (30) and children John F (13), Ellen (11), Julia (10) Joseph A (2) and James H (1) all born Manchester. Ref - RG11 piece 3991 folio 12 page 20
POB for Jane is given as Ionian Islands, Greece ???
the Ionian Index is on the Malta family history website - link here - it gives the same details as the census : - http://website.lineone.net/~remosliema/Ionian1.htm
Best wishes
