Title: Memorial Inscription Required: Deeping St James ~ Lincolnshire
Post by: Tony Freeman on Tuesday 25 June 13 08:52 BST (UK)
Is there anyone with easy access to the graveyard at Deeping St James?

I am looking for help in obtaining a translation of the inscription on the attached grave for a Susannah Baker.
You will have to locate the grave by reference to the building in the background.

Your help will be much appreciated :-)

Hi Tony
I live in the Deepings and today had a look at the Headstone for you, it is pretty worn but I managed to make out the following:-

In Memory of
William Baker
Who Died Dec 15th 1854
Aged 77 Years
Also
Elizabeth Baker
Wife of the above
Who Died Dec ??
Aged 46 Years

I'm certain it said Elizabeth (although it was very faint) and not Susannah and the date and year of her death is unreadable.

There is a Headstone next to it of an Elizabeth Ann Baker and in front is a Headstone with Benjamin Baker and William Baker (these are also in unreadable condition)...could these be same family?

Hope this info helps
With regards
Chris

Hello Chris,

Thank you so much for taking the time to look.
It was very kind of you.

I will need to check on the other names that you mention, but I think that they are part of the same family.

Checking on gravestones is a little difficult for me, as I live in Italy and do not get back to the UK too much :-)

Best regards
