Title: Samuel James Pigott - obituary in "The Warden" newspaper
Post by: magsb123 on Monday 17 June 13 17:03 BST (UK)
Hello,
Can someone help me to find an obituary for Samuel Pigott who died on 17 June 1853 and was buried at Mt Jerome Cemetery on 20 June 1853. I have the monument inscription from his grave but would like to see his obituary to find out more about his life and family. Thanks for your time.

Samuel died a little while before the Times started published, but probably the best newspaper to check for a possible death notice or obituary would be Freeman's Journal. I dont think the Warden newspaper is available online anywhere.

Dont see where you are based but this is available through some libraries, and on the subscription website IrishNewsArchives, and I think also BritishNewsArchives

The only newspaper of that name that I can find listed on the NLI index is the 'Warden of Galway'.

What's the source of the reference you mentioned ?

wonder if that would be the 'Warder' newspaper ?

It was published in Dublin for the 1820s, and in the 1880s changed it's name to the 'Warder & Dublin Weekly Mail'.

Thank you for your replies, Rootschatters,
I will look into the other papers suggested. An obituary in "The Warden" was mentioned in a letter written in the 1950's by a relative of Samuel's. Thanks again, Margaret.
