Title: Cannot find any trace of 1917 Hughes birth
Post by: ArmaghHughes on Thursday 13 June 13 21:50 BST (UK)
I have managed to find another branch of my Hughes family from Armaghbrague but to prove the link 100% I need to find a birth for Margaret Hughes who was born to Mary Hughes in January 1917 but I cannot find any trace in any of the Index that I have searched ....Has anyone got any tips or can suggest any other resource .Ive tried Ancestry ,Emerald Ancestors and I.F.H.R .
Margaret married Peter Haughey (although I don't have a date yet) and I cant even find any record of a marriage either. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hello, and welcome.

Is it possible that her father was in the army serving abroad when she was born in 1917? (or was her mum single)

Will have a scout round for you

Phew,  A difficult one.  Drawn a blank.

Someone with far more knowledge regarding Irish records will know more.

Sorry

there are two slight possibilities on family search.org Maggie Hughes oct dec 1917 Armagh vol 1 page 28 this could be a late registration? the other is the only jan quarter i could find Margaret Hughes jan march 1917 Longford vol 3 page 163.

Thanks all for your help . I had managed to find the one in Longford but nobody in the family seems to know of any Links there .   Susan ..thanks for your help also  its interesting that you say that the mother could have been single as we believe that may have been the case .....Why would this affect the registration ? or do you think that it may have been hidden ? . Margarets Mother was my Great Grandfathers sister and her name was Mary Hughes but Margaret was also a Hughes and apparently it was never discussed much in the family

It's just a shame you cannot see actual transcription of Irish baptisms (in the same way as some in England are shown).  Mother and father name is shown and sometimes the vicar wrote a comment or two in the margin.

Wish we could get some more detail to help you out.
