Title: St Thomas Home for Friendless and Fallen, Basingstoke
Post by: Shellspacebabe on Wednesday 12 June 13 12:44 BST (UK)
Hello

i am unable to find any census records for 1881 and 1901.  I have the information I need for 1891 but for some reason when I type in the street name it only shows an entry for 1891 and just the lodges for 1901. The street name was Darlington Road the home opened in 1874

If anyone is happy to assist would be very grateful  :)

Hi Shell

What info is it you are looking for?

Think I have found the census info for 1901.

Best wishes

Maria  :)

Hi,

It seems it's now a School for the Deaf and there is some information on this site http://www.sussexdeafhistory.org.uk/page_id__132_path__0p61p56p57p.aspx

Basinstoke Heritage Society is also doing some research on the home after being approached by Barchester Healthcare......if I've read the info on the Heritage Society webpage correctly.

It's mentioned under "other matter" on this site, perhaps if you contacted them they may be able to help you.

Try googling St Thomas Home Darlington Rd 1874 and you may find a little more.

I have a great love for Basingstoke......when it was a small market town, as opposed to present day.  I found the home on google maps and took a little walk around the steets...which seem to have changed from my memory of the area.   :)
