Hello Everyone
I was wondering if any body could help find info regarding Agnes Ede, maiden name Dickinson. She was born in 1876/1877 at Whangaroa to Abel Dickinson and Elizabeth Sinclair. Her mother was described as half maori while her father was from the U.S.I know very little about her, except that she married Albert Ernest Ede who she later divorced. If some one would be kind enough to give me a little info it would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards

They married in 1896. Their divorce file is held at Archives New Zealand's Auckland office, ref. BBAE4984, file 139, Albert Ernest EDE and Agnes EDE.
Albert remarried in 1902, to Lily BLOXHAM.
Albert Ernest EDE, a pipelayer, died on 23 December 1913 at Avondale, Auckland. His probate is also held at Archives New Zealand's Auckland office.

Hello...
Maybe (or not) following the 1901 divorce there was a second marriage for Agnes.
1905/1174 - Agnes DICKINSON to William James HOGAN
EDIT: Seems not. See KHP's reply #11

The NZ Society of Genealogists hold a Birth Record for Agnes in their Pedigree Collection.
I see that Alonzo attended Kaeo School, in Northland in 1883, wonder if it would be worthwhile to send a snail mail to the nearest NZSG Branch to see if they hold any records for the family. Of interest her father Abel doesn't appear on the Electoral Roll for Bay of Islands until 1900.

Hello,
In "Papers Past", 'New Zealand Herald' dated 14.6.1901 there is a brief report of the divorce between Albert Ernest Ede and Agnes Ede who were married in 1895 @ Whangaroa.

1905/1174 - Agnes DICKINSON to William James HOGAN
Interesting, just looking at a tree on Ancestry for this chappie, and the 1905 marriage partner is down as Norah Agnew Dickinson aged 25, died 17 Dec 1949, aged 62, Karori Cemetery, Wellington. Same registration number as above is quoted in the citation.
There is a 1887 birth for a Norah Agnew Hicks, who married a William John Hogan in 1907 which is also mentioned in the tree I found.
If she did remarry wouldn't she go by her married name rather than revert to her maiden name?
Cheers

Im glad her birth certificate has finally been found that will help a lot. I seem to lose track of her as soon as she divorces Albert.Albert does marry Lilly who he has a child with called Alexandra Ede. During Albert and Lilly's divorce Albert makes a small reference regarding Agnes.Apparently they meet a few times in Auckland which Lilly was not happy about.
Kind Regards

Hi Edesearch,
happened upon you post when researching the birth parents of my grandmother Nancy Shields/Sisam.
My mother obtained pre-adoptive birth certificate and a copy of the death registration for Agnes Shields from Internal Affairs back in 1998.
Nancy Shields was born 26 May 1920 to an Agnes Shields who was 39 yrs at the time and subsequently adopted by Fanny Jane Sisam.
According to her death registration, Agnes Jean Hogan as also known as Agnes Jean Shields died 24 Apr 1952 in Auckland. Her mother is listed as Elizabeth Dickinson and father as Abel Dickinson.
Two marriages are listed:
Albert Ede at Whangaroa age 16 yrs. 1 male child age 55
William James Hogan at Paeroa age 27 yrs. William James Hogan also commonly known as William James Shields. Two male children ages 49 & 46.
Seems your Agnes Ede nee Dickinson may be my natural great grandmother.
Beg Clonrode (reply #8) appears to be correct about the remarriage

Hi Kathy, and welcome to RootsChat. ;D
I hope you'll get a reply from the original poster and other responders soon.
In the meantime could I recommend that you protect yourself from the risk of identity theft and remove the photo in your RootsChat profile. And it's also a very good idea to use an online alias identity rather than your own name. 8) ;)
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask by replying to this topic.

Hi SnowNz and Kathy
Sorry it has taken me a while to respond, I've been a little busy of late. I have to say SnowNz your info is a massive help. I haven't been able to find much on Agnes, its hard to keep track of her. Kathy, most of the info i have regarding Agnes is contained within this thread. I called into archives NZ and found her divorce papers, but that was all. I don't know whether either of you are able to email me yet. Kathy if you're new you have to write a couple of posts before hand. SnowNz, thanks again for the information, its a big help.
Kind Regards

Hi, I am an descendant of Abel and Elizabeth Dickinson. Abel was an American Whaling Ship Captain who married Elizabeth. From what I was told Elizabeth was full maori (she had a moko and only full maori had those back then) and came from a Gisborne Tribe. They settled up North and my Great Grandfather was Eugene Dickinson. I have further information if you are interested. The name Agnes rings a bell to me. I would have to look through old photos etc to confirm what I know. If you want to get in touch with me, my email address is registered to this site.

Hi there. I haven't looked into this for a few years but I am still trying to find Agnes Shields...my grandmother Nancy Shields was born in Auckland on May 20th 1920. She was adopted by Fanny Jane Sisam (a widow who owned a farm I the Waitakere Ranges) when she was about 2years old. All I really know is her birth mother was Agnes Shields and she was about 39 when Nancy was born.

Hi Kathy,
I sent you a PM of my email, send me a message and I can tell you what I know about Agnes.
