William born N.Z.1903 suppossedly went to Ausie 1920s  with brother Albert who changed his name to Sidney SMITH. Perhaps William did the same. Have just found Alberts descs. Searched deaths on line for Qld,and NSW. No luck. Any help would be appreciated.

What were his parent's names?

There is a William George F Sherwood on NSW BDM who died 1968 at Burwood with parents William David and Aline reg 39736/1968

regards,
   Ros

adding : The corresponding death notice SMH 30 sep 1968 says he died sep 26. 1968 beloved brother of Sally and David of Double Bay.  Privately cremated 27th instant
So probably not the right one?

Yes, Ros. I think so too.

This item may be why the name change for ALBERT.

Service Record at http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/Imagine.asp?B=8083042
William George SHERWOOD - Service No: - 585; Place of Birth - Sydney NSW; Next of Kin - (Father)  William David SHERWOOD
This chap was born in NSW so not the right man.
Ros's find of death 1958 - William George SHERWOOD of Dundas looks very likely.

cheers :)

I would be interested to know why ALBERT NOEL SHERWOOD

Birth-
Yr 1902 REG 355 Sherwood,  Albert Noel- Parents  May Ruth Evelyn & Charles William

who, according to the OP,  changed his name in Australia, is to be granted administration   in the probate under his proper birth name.

Sue

ADDING. Just to clarify what I mean- He must have been accessible and "findable" under his correct name. If there is no will then obviously there is no person named by deceased  as administrator.  The alias therefore must have been a bit inconsistent

If you are sure you have all the information you want and wish to have the thread moved to "topics completed" do this

At the top right on any post you yourself have made there is a button- "modify"
Click this and an editable version of that post will open for you.
Go to the very top where your heading is (William George Sherwood) and next to it in the same box write the word -"completed"
Click save at the foot of the window

At some stage a moderator will see the word 'completed' and move it to the right section for you..

Hi Toru4,
Are you interested in the probate packet?  If so I can photograph it for you shortly.

I was supposed to go to NSW state archives for another rootschatter but it's been school holidays (total mayhem then) so I have been postponing it.  Sometimes the probate packets include death certs and other useful tit bits  - but if informant didn't know his parents then it may not be informative.  Well who knows - perhaps it gives some details of Albert and his reason for making claim?

The other rootschatter wasn't very excited by the idea so I guess I wasn't feeling very motivated - but if you have some interest then it will add to my motivation.

cheers,
   Ros

Wonder if Rossball would be happy to copy the probate of William George Sherwood for me and email it to me as I have done the Sherwood tree for the daughter of Albert Noel Sherwood and this would be her uncle. thank you for the details on the roll.

I've never seen so many certs in a probate packet before  :)  The death cert for our chap, birth certs for his siblings, marriage and death certs for his parents.

cheers,
   Ros
