February 14th 1866, the Eugina, a schooner out of Aberystwyth, was foundered (sank) at the Mumbles, Swansea. Can anyone help me find a reference to this event in newspaper archives or something? I'm really interested as my great great great grandfather was the captain of this ship.

have checked for "eugina" (no hits) and alternative search keys for a sinking in The Mumbles around the date you have quoted (nothing fits)
What was the Captain's name?
The Cambrian is the local paper and well indexed for the 19th Century.

I don't know who was captain at the time of it's sinking but I know that my grandfather, was aboard in the 1861 census, I think he probably wasn't on board on the date in question.

I had tried variations of "Eugina" and various other search keys ("mumbles", "aberystwyth", schooner", "shipwreck"). The index has "shipwrecks" (plural) and an unusual form "Aberwystwyth".
Will try to get to archives today to check out the article.

The Cambrian, 16 Feb 1866
"COLLISION IN THE BAY - About 6 o'clock yesterday (Thursday) morning an accident occurred in the Mumbles bay which resulted in serious consequences. About the hour mentioned the schooner Harkaway, from Falmouth, in ballast, for Swansea, brought up in the Mumbles roadstead about half a mile from the shore. No vessel was near the spot at the time, but shortly after the Eugene of Aberystwyth came to anchor close alongside. She was hailed not to anchor so close, as there was a good deal of sea up and blowing a stiff gale. The caution was unheeded and in a short time the vessels got foul of each other, and the Eugene received such injuries that she foundered in a short time. The crew were all saved by getting on board the Harkaway."
