Hi, Trying to find when Adam Cottrell Turnock arrived in NZ.He was born in 1825 in Macclesfield Cheshire and died 29 June 1914 in NZ..He was married to Emily Maria Hills.I think he married in NZ.They had 6 children born here. He was my G G Grandfather.Appreciate any help, thanks.

There's an Adam Turnock in the Worldwide Army Index for 1861 - he's in Auckland, New Zealand a private in the 65th Foot.

Do you mean in Discharged in New Zealand? No.
But you now know that he was born at or close to the town of Congleton, located south of Macclesfield in Cheshire. You could précis the information you have discovered about him into a post on the RootsChat Cheshire Board and ask for help identifying his parents.

Cheshire no doubt has a local Archives which you could contact. Search online. They might even have an online database of their holdings which you could search for free once you find some names.

There appear to be TURNOCK'S still living at Congleton! Google 'turnock congleton'.
And this Congleton website mentions a TURNOCK, with a link to his business (see last paragraph). This might lead to other descendants.

Spacecookie,the three 10 year olds were probably not triplets,in the 1841 census peoples ages were rounded up or down to the nearest 5,eg 10,15,20 etc

Hi Guys, thanks for all the help you are giving me. I will put all the info i now have together and post on the Cheshire site as you suggest. It has he was discharged with gratuity 14/9/1865 in Otahuhu Auckland.I found an article for his marriage in the Papers Past Daily Southern Cross,which states from Macclesfield. I think he was given a property in Gisborne when he was discharged as that is where my Great Grandfather was born, in 1878, Charles Edward Turner (he changed from Turnock to Turner). I will now concentrate my efforts on the parents of Adam and check some of the sites you have recommended. thanks again.

'Auckland Star' dated 7.6.1900, The Queen's Birthday, Adam Turnock, 65th Regiment, 10 year's service.
'Auckland Star' dated 30.7.1914, under Bereavement Card.
'Auckland Star, dated 24.5.1944, under Deaths. Two notices:-
1."Albert Oliver, husband of the late Sarah, father of...................."
2."Albert Oliver, son of the late Emily M. & Adam Turnock.............."
[Albert Oliver died 1944, aged 58 years. NZ BDM on-line Index.]
Also in "Papers Past" several snippets re the Old Age Pension being granted to Adam.
Gazette notices to be found here too, with descriptions of properties in which Adam had an interest.

SON OF ADAM TURNOCK BORN 1803 BAPTIZED 12.06.1803 NORTON IN THE MOORS STAFFORDSHIRE DIED 1874 MACCLESFIELD
AND MARY COTTRELL BORN @ 1801 MACCLESFIELD DIED 1881 MACCLESFIELD
I THINK HE HAD 10 BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHICH I HAVE DETAILS OF.
GOING BACK ANOTHER GENERATION I BELIEVE THAT THE PARENTS OF ADAM (BORN 1803) WERE JOSEPH TURNOCK BORN 1768 NORTON IN THE MOORS AND SARAH BOOT BORN 1777 ASTBURY CHESHIRE. THEY MARRIED ON 15,11.1796 AT STOKE ST PETER & VINCULA CHURCH STAFFORDSHIRE. THEY ARE BOTH BURIED AT ASTBURY ST MARYS CHURCH IN CHESHIRE. JOSEPH ON 04.05.1853 AND SARAH ON 05.09.1858.
I DID NOT HAVE ANY INFO ON THIS BRANCH OF THE FAMILY UNTIL I SAW YOUR POST.
ANY CHANCE OF SHARING YOUR INFO ON ADAMS CHILDREN AND WIFE ?

Hi,thanks for that information.I had Adams parents via some help re lookup requests but was not quite sure as needed varification as we haven't Adams Birth cert to confirm parents as Adam Turnock and Mary Cottrell. I am quite happy to share what i have as i am a direct descendant from Adam. Adams children-- Frederick Cottrell-1872, Matilda Mary-1875, Charles Edward-1878, John Bengamin-1881, Arthur Edwin-1884, Reginald William-1886, Albert Oliver-1889. Adam Turnock married Emily Maria Hills. My GG Grand father was the above Charles Edward. They changed their name to Turner with Charles Edward,He was Turnock/Turner but took Turner as surmane.I have the Turners right down to me so if you want any more just let me know.They were a family that had many children.It may be easier to email you some copies of what i have on the rest of the family if you are interested.

Hi, thank you for that info.Since you gave me the info a few further back generations,i was given some more info on the parents of Joseph Turnock(b 1765) who married Sarah Boot. They gave Samuel Turnock wife Mary Knight,and Parents of this Samuel as Samuel Turnock married Hannah ?.I have another quandry. I have Thomas Endon Turnock born 1797, son of Joseph Turnock and Sarah Boot, and brother of my Adam and I have come accross a Thomas Turnock Born 1656 married Elizabeth Endon born 1659 and i am trying to see if they can be linked if you come accross any information or have any on these. thanks.

Hi again. forgot to add, there also is another Thomas Endon Turnock born 1768 who is the Great Grandson of the Thomas turnock (1656) and Elizabeth Endon.So about 29 years between the 2 Thomas Endon Turnocks.May help.
