For some unknown reason my computer has updated itself to IE 10 (from IE8). I thought that I had stopped it updating IE. I suppose I will get used to it. However, I don't seem to have an icon to open my emails. Please can anyone enlighten me.

From the semi -illiterate computer no nothing.
Umm top left while on internet explorer left click tools drop down to windows update have you set that to always update.
If you left click bottom left where it says START (windows) do you have a menu with your email ICON? IE MICRO SOFT OUTLOOK EXPRESS ??? If not you need to reinstall.
Neil... well I tried

What about going into control panel, uninstall programs IE10.
(I had problems similar using windows 7, just uninstalled which left me with IE9.)

Thanks Neil. I thought that I had the box unchecked, but... It was checked when I investigated after the update, but again...I don't like things happening when I haven't made the decision myself. However, I ought to be used to computers by now.
I have an icon on the desktop for Live Mail and there is one as you say, in the start menu. I am just annoyed that the one in the top task bar has disappeared.

Thanks Calverley Lad. I'll have a think about that one. I'm using Windows 7 too. Thank you for the suggestion. It is so obvious that I didn't think about it.
I must confess that IE10 appears to be faster than before.

If you right click on an empty space on the top bar of IE10 a menu should appear tick command bar and your icons should be back

Thanks. Icons now back and functioning.
