Hello, I am looking for any information about the person in this photo. Is he a railwayman? He could be a member of any of the following families: Robertson, Lord, Winnett, Dunk, Halliday.
cheers

Seems to be likely they were this address from 1886 -1901 :

You could try contacting the National Railway Museum http://www.nrm.org.uk/ (http://www.nrm.org.uk/)
They might be able to help
:)

Hi
You might also try London Underground's museum?
The picture was taken in Baker Street, so Metropolitan Railway?
If it was pre-unification of the individual lines then it could be any of the lines.
The cap, to me, implies a porters cap?
Shaped like that so that luggage carried shoulder/head height wouldn't knock it off.

Hello Ray,
Thanks for that bit of info, I will check the London Underground Museum.

I agree with Ray, my first thoughts were porter, but did not want to lead you in the wrong direction.

Ray and Jennifer,
I looked at the London TRansport MUseum site and the uniforms shown there are similar but not close enough. The search continues.
Thanks for your input

Hi Wally
I expect that there may have been different updates to their (whoever they were) uniforms.
What I meant was "send them the photo and ask them".
Not only may they be able to identify, but they may want a copy from you.

Ray, I'm sorry my nearly 70yo brain didn't connect with the send them a photo and .........
I have found another photo almost the same and the young man in this one could be the brother of the above. The new young fella has a white?collar that goes almost up to his chin and his tie is white and not dark like the first one.
One of my cousins has suggested it may the a school uniform perhaps.

Hi Wally
Don't worry, I have now asked them to take a look at it.
Let's hope there is an answer from them, even if it is "no".
Why don't you post the other photo?
That may jolt something in one of our older brains?

Hello Ray,
Thanks for asking the question.
I have attached the other photo of possibly the same young man with different details on his shirt. The one word photographer's name is intriguing.

I don't think so - it's much more likely to be a work uniform, especially with that elaborate insignia on the cap and buttons. As has been said, probably a railway porter but I can't find a picture of one with a cap just like that. I've also looked at images of telegram boys and messenger boys which are similar, but still not quite the same. I think it will be something of that sort, though.

Do you not think they might be the same person, a year or so apart?
-
yes, I have thought they could be brothers. This 2nd shot I was keeping to spend some time cleaning it and getting rid of the rubbish in the background and putting some detail back into the tie and collar.
I hadn't thought of he/them being messenger or telegram boys.

Hi
Thanks must go to those really nice Customer & curator people at LondonTransport Museum as they found this as a starter for comparison.

They have also asked the NationalRailwayMuseum for ideas too.
