Does he ever give a more specific place of birth in any later census?

When/where does he marry?

1851 census has three possibles, born in the following places.

WADE, Samuel 1841  Bosmere
WADE, Samuel 1843  Ipswich
WADE, Samuel 1839  Wangford

Any ideas on which is most likely?

Mike

HO107 Piece 1797 Folio 97 Page 21 - Debenham, Suffolk

Robert Wade 32 Head (Widower)
Samuel Wade 10 son
George Wade 6 son
Harriett Wade 21 Sister

all born in Debenham, Suffolk (which matches Sam's PoB in 1891, when Clara was enumerated)

In 1881 a Samuel Wade bn about 1842 in DEBENHAM has a wife Eliza (no daughter called Clara though, plenty of other children, youngest only little so she may be born after 1881)

Is this him?

Poor Eliza !  Is it possible to find out how she died ?

You should order a death certificate (£9.25) to find that out

Robert (& sister Harriett) were still at home in the 1841 census (Parents John & Rebecca) , and given the age of Sam in the 1851, you need to find a marriage early in the 1840s ...

Hartismore ref 4a 335
Eliza Wade age 38

looks a likely index entry

Hi,

On 1851 census the only Samuel Wade (bc 1842 Debenham) that I can see is with widowed father Robert, brother George and Robert's sister Harriett (all born Debenham), at the Cherry Tree Inn, Debenham.  :-\

Where did you find the names John and Rebecca?

there is a John & Rebecca with a son Samuel -but he was b. c. 1835??

1851
Debenham (next door to Cherry tree Inn)
John Wade head M 62 ag lab Mendelsham Suffolk
Rebecca wife 57 laxfield Suffolk
Dennis son 19 ag lab Debenahm
George son 17 debenham
Samuel son 16 ag lab Debenham
HO107 1797 88 3

wonder if John and Rebecca are the grandparents of Samuel b 1842??

this is interesting
Samuel Wade b.c.1842 debenham can be found 1851 with father Robert (as nanyjan posted) at the Cherry tree Inn (which John & Rebecca lived next door to in 1851)
Samuel Wade 1842 Debenham can be found 1851/71/81/91/1901/1911 census -but haven't found him in 1861 - in one of the later census he is named Samuel Smith Wade
1851 census John and Rebecca have grandson Samuel Smith b.c.1842 Debenham with them??
So did Samuel have a middle name of Smith?? Or was he born pre marriage to Robert Wade???

There is a marriage FreeBMD
Jun qtr 1843 Bosmere
on same page
Robert Wade
Rebecca Smith
12 403

???

Can anyone help me please ? I'm looking for information on Eliza Wade born 1848 in Suffolk married to Samuel Wade born 1840 in Debenham ( under a surname of Smith ). I would like to know her maiden name and parents names. She had 10 children including my great grandmother Clara.  I think Eliza died around 1882 ?  Many thanks

A birth cert of one of the 10 children would give mothers maiden name

Hi,

In 1871 Eliza has a son George DAVEY, aged 9, living with her (in 1881 he has changed his name to WADE). This could be the marriage,

Eliza DAVEY    Mar Q 1866    Ipswich    4a  776
Sarah J GATHERCOLE
William BALLS
Samuel SMITH

There is a birth for an Eliza Rebecca DAVEY born in Kenton,

Eliza Rebecca DAVY    Mar Q 1849    Plomesgate    12  410

Eliza Rebecca DAVY
Christening
04 Mar 1849
Kenton, Suffolk
Father: William DAVY
Mother: Mary

and a death which could be her,

Eliza Rebecca W SMITH    Sep Q 1888    Hartismere    4a  337
Age : 42

Regards,
Daisy

It's been a while since I last posted a question for anyone who can help.

I'm going to try and find out more about my grandmother Elizabeth White who married my Grandfather Arthur Wade.

Can anyone help me with who her parents were ?

She was born in 1913 and died in April 1985 in Wattisfield, Suffolk.

She had 7 children including my father Raymond Samuel Wade who was born in Occold, Suffolk on 01/11/1935.

Thank you.

Hi,

In case it helps her death gives her birthdate as 22 September 1912,

Elizabeth WADE
Apr 1985
Bury St Edmunds    10  2281
22 Sep 1912

This fits with an entry on the 1939 register.

Do you have any of her children's birth certificates? I ask as there is this marriage entry which is written on the GRO index ,

Arthur B WADE    Dec Q 1929    Hartismere    4a  2421
to a WHITE or SMITH

There are matching entries for an Elizabeth WHITE and an Elizabeth SMITH to a WADE.

Normally I would think that this would mean that Elizabeth had been married previously but as she would have only been 17 it seems unlikely. Possibly she was born a SMITH and her mother then married a WHITE or vice versa.

Getting this marriage certificate might be the only way to sort this out as SMITH and WHITE are such common names and we can't even be sure of Elizabeth's POB.

Regards,
Daisy
