HI,
My maternal grandmother, Jemima Tomany Nee Davidson (Glasgow) died 09 Jul 1939 at 20 Kell Lane Withington.
(Inquest Notes name of deceased; JEMIMA TOMANY date of death; 9TH JULY 1939 date of inquest; 19TH JULY 1939 where and when inquest held; MANCHESTER officer in charge of case; J RYCROFT age of deceased; 34 YEARS address of deceased; 20 KELL LANE WITHINGTON place of death; 20 KELL LANE WITHINGTON)
On July 22nd, 1939 'The Manchester City News' (“The News”) reported the following:-
CASE “BRISTLING WITH SUSPICION”:
Coroner and Death of a Mother of Nine.
Our family has been told that the inquest is no longer available.
Can anyone tell me how I might be able to view this newspaper so as to be able to look up subsequent articles regarding this 'suspicious death'?
Also - I would like any clues as to how I might be able to find out more.
For instance - does anyone know if it is worth asking the Police; might they have records of cases etc.
Her children were deposited into Hollymount Orphanage in Fleetwood - and my grandfather was never heard of again (this is a separate matter that I might start another thread for).
Thanks

The problem is; the original poster is in Western Australia!

AS much as I would like to visit the Manchester Room - it is highly unlikely!
Wish I still had a cousin or relative there ;-)
Does anyone know if it is easy to get someone to do a lookup or something?
Thanks everyone.

Hi
That's why I put the information on here, hoping that someone would offer to do a look up.

Have you applied for her death certificate,
-
You could try asking Sunshine8 if she has got the time.

Yes - have her death cert.
What our family is trying to find out is what happened as a consequence of the Police Inquiry/case etc
and if the consequences are related to the subsequent disappearance of my grand-father.
Will start a new topic regarding finding him.
What might I need to offer Sunshine as a trade?
Thanks

Hi,
Email Manchester Library and explain what your looking for, give dates, names etc. Sometimes if a nice person gets your email they are willing to help. Explain you are not in England therefore not able to come in person :)

Hi there,
I've got your details and will get whatever information I can for you. I'm not a professional researcher, so don't always have success, but I've found the archivists and volunteers at the Library are always helpful and knowledgable.
Fingers crossed :)
