Title: McLeod/Urquhart
Post by: houston on Monday 20 May 13 05:08 BST (UK)
Hi There,
I have in the family line a
John McLeod b. abt 1778 Assynt Sutherland married (presumably)to an
Isabella (Isobel) Urquhart also b. abt 1778 Assynt Sutherland Scotland.   There is a record of a son John McLeod OR Urquhart b. 16 June 1811
- see under posts Scotland Sutherland McLeod/Urquart by houston
This is all the information I have and have had no luck finding more though I did today find a Cemetery notice under  No 15 In memory of Isabella Urquhart widow of John McLeod 15 Mar 1885 aged 63 also two infants
www.Seafoamcemetery. Pictou County Novia Scotia Canada.

I am wondering if this is the same couple having migrated on unknown ship to Canada

Would someone be able to confirm this or not and what happened to Father John and child John born Scotland- if same family.

Many thanks
houston

It could not possibly be the same couple.  The dates and ages are a generation off.

Possibly even two generations off. If the dates are correct then "Isabella (Isobel) Urquhart also b. abt 1778" but the Isabella in the cemetery reference was born c1822.

It would appear John and Isobel were not married. The OPR entry says it was the baptism of "John natural born son of John McLeod and of Isobel Urquhart". This is what it says at ScotlandsPeople regarding the term "natural":

Quote
If the child has been illegitimate (usually indicated by the term "natural"), there may be further information to be found in the Kirk Session records, if the parents have been admonished for their behaviour.
