I know this might be a long shot and may be impossible to answer, but is the surname Vallely from any particular place/county in Ireland? Sorry if this is a bit of a difficult question!
-
You can use some online reources to get an indication of where a certain cername seems to be most common.
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch
(just put in surname- but won't show variations)
www.familysearch.org
(put in surname and Ireland as place, then use menu on left to break down results by county- will show variants but you can select for exact match).

www.nationalarchives.ie/census If you look at 1901 census you will see the distribution of the Vallely surname :)

Hi,
In the mid 1800s the name was heavily concentrated in Co. Armagh.
Regards
-
Thank you! Very interesting to see the name was concentrated in County Armagh in the 1800s. That's the period I'm working on right now! Thanks to all who replied!
-
As above I would also say County Armagh, and to a lesser degree in the adjoining counties of Louth and Tyrone.
-
I agree with the above and indeed I have Vallely relatives in South Armagh specifically Cladymore.
If you have access to Ancestry, there are a couple of family trees on there [including mine] in which Vallely families feature.
One of mine was Bernard Vallely c1840 married Elizabeth Lenaghan and their daughter Elizabeth married John McArdle was my G Grandmother [d] 1909
Happy hunting!

Thank you! I have hit a bit of a brick wall with this Vallely/woods side of the family. Can't seem to find out too much about when they came over from Ireland. It seems they were in Ayrshire at one time, they married in st Joseph's in Kilmarnock, and then were in coatbridge where Owen woods, my gg grandfather worked in the ironworks but although I know a bit more about him, ann(ie) Vallely is more difficult to find out about!

Hi, I'm currently researching Francis Vallely born 1808 in Cladymore, Armagh and died there in 1885. I have his last will and testament which gives the names of his children. I know his oldest daughter was Catherine born 1831 in Cladymore but I have no dates of birth for any of his other children, namely John, Bridget, Terence, Peter, Francis and Patrick and with the absence of Francis wife's name I don't know where to search next.
I also have some Vallely family coming over to Newcastle and Gateshead who were born in Markethill, Cladymore in 1845. Just trying to establish how/if both families are related.
Thanks x

Here is the death for Francis. The informant, his grandson, Francis Rocks.

According to John Grenham-

Here's Clady More townland in Kilclooney (Lower Fews portion) civil parish.
https://www.townlands.ie/armagh/fews-lower/kilclooney-lower-fews-portion/clady/clady-more/
It's 8-10 km SW of the town of Markethill.

That will is difficult to follow, isn’t it.
Here is the marriage of Bridget Vallely and Michael Smith

Marriage 1884
Peter Vallely and Elizabeth Dillon

Son - Francis
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1886/02606/1962191.pdf
Peter and Eliza Vallely - Heworth, Durham
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XSHJ-FQP
So from these searches,
Bridget born abt 1840
Peter born about 1850
I saw a reference to a nephew, Terence, in the will, I think. Was there also a son, Terence mentioned?
Added - have had another look, I see Terence, son.

Ballymacnab RC parish baptisms for children of Francis Vallely and Anne Rocks of Cladymore include Terence in 1827, Catherine in 1830, Bridget in 1836, John in 1839, Francis in 1843, and Peter in 1849. I can't yet see a marriage record for Francis and Anne online, I doubt if it would offer up any leads to take you further back anyway.

One of the townlands bordering Clady More in Kilclooney parish is Corran in Lisnadill parish, the following links to transcriptions from the relevant Tithe Applotment Books show entries for: 'Vallely, Barthw.' and 'Vallely, Bernard' in Corran (1832), as well as other Vallelys and Rocks in these parishes:

With the caveat that there are just so many Vallelys on the ground in that area back then, here's a marriage 'maybe', John Vallely to Mary Anne Cosgrove in 1870:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1870/11367/8173231.pdf
Just also be aware that the Ballymacnab RC parish registers show, contemporary to Francis Vallely and Anne Rocks of 'Cladymore' having children baptised, a Francis Vallely and Ann Burk of 'Cladymore' had a number of children baptised: Patrick in 1827, Peter in 1829, Mary in 1832 and Ann in 1836.

Thank you to everyone who replied to my Vallely post. Your help was much appreciated x

Hi I am researching my husband's family who come from Cladymore. His great grandfather was John Vallely born in about 1846. He married Anne Rocks on 28th April 1874 and they had 7 children who reached adulthood Mary Anne 1875, Rose 1877, Patrick 1879 all born in Cladymore. Margaret 1886, Ellen 1889, Catherine 1891 all born in Co Durham, England and John 1898 born in Cladymore. The things I am trying to find out are
When did John born about 1846 die?
When did Anne die (born about 1855)?
Who was John's mother? (His father was Bernard Vallely 1807-1872 from Cladymore)
Who is Anne Rocks mother? (Her father was Edward Rocks 1819-1892?)
I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.
