Hello everyone, just wondered if you could help with this very old one. I've dated this to around 1860 to 1870 from the photographers (handwritten) details on the back. Taken in Gundagai, Australia. The dark haired man is my 4x g grandfather George Fuller. Thank you in advance! :)

Thanks so much Terry, Japeflakes and Maggie. You are all so talented :) This is the oldest photo I have (it's very tiny probably about 5x4cm) so is very precious to me. Thank you very much!

What an absolutely wonderful old photo! Definitely 1860s, and I think early. Actually a typical 1850s pose, but not taken during that decade as photos printed on paper didn't come along until about 1860/61. And not a paper print made from an earlier glass photo, unless the print had been flipped because glass photos were backwards.
Both men are wearing a popular beard style called a Newgate Frill. You are very lucky to have such a fantastic old photo! Both men are very handsome :)
Cheers,
China

Thank you again for all these fantastic restorations! :) Also thanks to China for the additional information on dates (and the beards!). I've looked a little more into the photographers movements around the region and think he was in Gundagai around 1864. You're all great, thank you!!
